Hello ladies! I need to know (this may sound silly) if a bike trailer will tip over if the bike does? I am looking into them for our camping trips to haul all our gear from campsite to beach etc. My dogs would be riding sometimes as well. I guess my ? is does the trailer "hold up" the bike when you get off of it? Thanks for putting up with my silly ? - any other info on them would be great too!

What can I do next?

Quick answer...typically the trailer should not tip over if the bike does. The trailer will most likely not support the bike when you are not on it however. You will need to invest in a kick stand (one that doesn't interfere with the trailer hitch) or some kind of bike stand.

No, the trialor will not tip over. I have 2 of them, and they will not hold the bike up, but when the bike falls they stay upright.

It just depends on what trailer you get. I have one that specifically says that it will not tip over when your bike does. The difference is in the part that attaches to the bike. I bought my trailer at Wal-Mart it was not very expensive.

We have the Chariot line and we LOVE LOVE LOVE it. it is expensive but we have used it so much with our two kids. we bought the attachments so that it can be a bike trailer, jogging stroller, or just a regular stroller (different wheel attachments).

I have a bike trailer for my kids and have actually had the bike tip over without me on it (I was getting my kids out of the trailer)! The arm attachment from the trailer to the bike has a "spring" on it which allows the trailer to stay upright. At least that has been my experience, so unless you are on a hill, the trailer shouldn't tip over even if the bike does!
Hope this helps

Hi F.,
I have an Instep Quick-n-Lite that I use with my toddler. It is built so that it won't tip over even if the bike does. There have been a couple times when the bike was knocked over (without me on it :) and the trailer stayed upright - it didn't even shift. I believe most - if not all - bike trailers are made this way as a safety feature since a lot of people use them to carry children.

Best wishes!

I have a bike trailer/jogging stroller that I bought at Wal-Mart (BEST investment EVER) and it has a swivel thing at the end that attaches to the bike that prevents it from tipping if the bike were to tip. I guess you have to look for that thing while shopping for them! Wal-mart has a good one that is inexpensive!

We have a Burley and that was part of the selling point for us. The guy at the shop dropped the bike it was attached to and the trailer didn't tip. It is very easy to set up and attach. Burley even makes special trailers just for hauling gear. Hope it helps.

It does not tip over. I have tipped my bike several times (clumsy me) and the trailer has stayed upright. Have fun!!

The bike trailer we have has a little mechanism near where it attaches to the bike that allows the bike to tip over while keeping the trailer upright. It allows the hitch to pivot so if (for instance) you fell over on your bike the trailer should stay upright. We've had excellent results with ours as my husband's bike does not have a kickstand. Our trailer is a nice one, but not extremely expensive. I think most of the trailers come equipped with these but just read the description of the one you're looking at and make sure it has something similar. Good luck!
