SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS!!!!!! It is after all the capital. Learn some history. There are a few museums there. Visit some small towns near springfield, like Jacksonville (the ferris wheel was invented there), take a short car ride west to the Illinois River. there is a ferry that is loads of fun to watch usually in Pike County. Good luck and have fun! Remember, there is more to Illinois than Chicago!!!!!!!!

I would go to the Lake Michigan beach towns in Michigan. I've done a ton of research for a nice place, and there are really some AWESOME places. I'm hoping that our family can go to MI soon!

Madison, WI: roam around the UofW, visit the awesome children's museum, try a sprinkler park in Middleton if in the summer, Cave in the Mounds, farmer's market at the Capitol on Saturdays (complete with jugglers and other kid friendly amusement), a ton of cool parks to hike.

Sheboygan: Blue Harbor Resort (cheaper than Wisconsin Dells)

I second the suggestion for Starved Rock.
