Second the Huggies.

I used the Medela bottles because when I pumped at work, I could pump right into them.

All three will differ from baby to baby. We love BumGenius and FuzzyBunz diapers. We don't use bottles. And we don't use pacifiers other than the breast, it definitely works the best!!!

We have used Huggies f rom day one. They also seem to be a little cheaper than Pampers.
I breastfeed but when our son was at the sitters we used the Playtex Drop Ins after a lot of trial and error with different types of bottles.
As for a pacifier he liked the one that they gave him in the hopital can't remember the brand but they are green.

Diapers: Luvs are great and seem to be the least expensive compared to Pampers/Huggies. However, I found that Pampers run big so I would only use them to get more in the box at the smaller size. Example Pampers Size 4 = Luvs Size 5

Wipes: Pampers sensitive regular. or Luvs wipes. I stay away from thick wipes b/c they tend to have less moisture.

Pacifer: Not wanted by baby, so not needed.

Bottles: Gerber bottles with the colorful ring caps. (Target sells them, Babies R Us)

Use only chlorine-free diapers or cloth diapers (and don't freak - cloth diapers are NOT what they used to be. Check out G-Diapers or Bum Genius for example). Regular diapers like Huggies and Pampers and Walmart brand diapers AND wipes have been bleached (yes, literally bleach... like the stuff you use to clean nasty bathrooms with) and create dioxin poisoning. Europe has banned bleached diapers and wipes years ago. We personally use Seventh Generation diapers and wipes (and all their other things - dish detergent, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc.) and LOVE them for both of our kids.

Purchase your baby items thru Amazon.com and use their Amazon Mom program. It is free, and you get an additional 30% off of diapers and wipes if you sign up for their auto ship (I just immediately cancel it every time). Also, you can use any other Amazon coupons on top of this savings. Different parenting magazines have a coupon code for 20% off in them every month. I buy diapers and wipes for 2 kids for an entire month for $40 and they are shipped to me in 2 days for free without any taxes.

My kids were picky with bottles. We used Nuk ones with my daughter, and MAM ones with my son. We used MAM pacifiers with both. What we likes about the MAM pacifiers was that they couldn't be put in upside down. :-) We would have liked to have used glass bottles but our kids wouldn't take any of the nipples. :-(

Diaper - Pampers Sensitive.
Bottles - I now have eventflow bottles which is great! When my son was newborn we were recommended to use gerber nipples because they are so similar to your own, so breastfed babies take it well.
Pacifier - I liked Nuk because they are smaller and easy for baby to keep in mouth and suck on. But try not to have your baby use paci at all.Mine hardly used it .

well this is baby number 4 but current favs

diapers, cloth prefolds, seriously my son is 2 months and this is the first baby I've used cloth with but we have fewer rashes and fewer leaks, I've used both huggies and pampers on him because we had them and in under two hours had to change his clothes. So much cheaper and really not as gross or hard as people think

bottles, we bf, but he has taken a bottle since he was about 3 weeks old so i could get a few hours of sleep at night, the wide mouth Dr. Browns work great and we haven't had any nipple confusion issues.

paci's i used the soothies from the hospital with my first 3, however they make my new guy gag, we have tried advent, mam, and nuk all with the same result.

I've used Pampers on all 3 of my daughters. We tried other brands, but they always gave my girls rashes. I also use Pamper's Sensitive wipes.

I breastfed all my girls, so we didn't use bottles.

Pacifiers are tricky. You may have to try a few different kinds before you find one your baby likes. My first wouldn't take *any* pacifier, no matter how hard I tried! lol My second used a "parent's choice" soother (wal-mart brand, they're the teal green, pink or blue ones) for a good 2 years. My youngest will occassionally take a Nuk, but she's one that can take or leave the soother, and I don't push it too much :o)

Alot of stuff is trial and error. What works for one baby may not work for another.

Diapers: Pampers Swaddlers (it's what the hospital used), switching to Huggies at about 3 months with both DS (7) and DD (3). Found Huggies and LUVS worked the best with DS (bought the big boxes of Huggies at Sams Club). Discovered Target brand diapers with DD and used them mainly with her - they worked great (and are cute!). Pampers, in the bigger sizes, seemed to leak for us.

Bottles: Had the most experience with Playtex Vent Aire which were good but a bit of a pain - there's 5 parts to put together - and leaked occasionally due to operator error! Both were BF but I also pumped and supplemented with formula and used the little bottles that you could store the pumped milk and then just switch the lid for a nipple and they worked fine. (Both never had acid/gas issues either.)

Pacifier: No experience there. DS was a thumb sucker and DD never got into them.

Hope this helps!!!

I loved Pampers Swaddlers. They are just super soft. Most diapers are going to be just fine. The challenge is that they fit differently, so you might find that some to stop the leaks as well because of your child's body type.

Whatever bottle and pacifier you choose will be just fine, unless you run into a specific issue. My oldest used cheapo bottles, but my younest had a specific medical issue that required us to get Dr. Brown's (about 3 times the price).

Neither of my kids were interested in pacifiers after the first month or so. Just not their thing, I guess.

Well, it depends on the baby. My son did best with Huggies. My daughter did better with Pampers, but now at 5 mos, can wear any diaper. I liked Avent bottles. I always suggest Avent if you plan on breastfeeding first. Something about Avent makes the transition from breast to bottle easier. And I swear by bulb tipped pacifiers. Both my babies loved the Gerber bulb tipped pacis. These are more hard to find, and I can only find them at BabiesRUs. Both my babies hated the orthodontic type tips.

Diapers: if you're going the disposable route and willing to spend a few extra bucks, i realllllly like 7th generation diapers. Not only are they unbleached, but when baby wets her diaper (even soaking wet!) her bum still feels dry to the touch. I wanna cloth diaper my LO but my hubby doesnt like the idea of sticking poopy diapers in the wash. : / Still thinkin about switching though.

Paci: my LO never really used a paci much, but when she did i always used the ones that are all one piece (like the ones they give u in the hospital.) The ones that have a plastic piece i just dont feel comfortable giving to her, esp. since there have been so many recalls with different brands from the nipple part coming detached.

As for bottles, didn't really use much so cant help ya there.
And of course, every baby is different and will or wont like what another baby does/doesn't. So just buy a couple different nipples/paci's and maybe a small pack of a few different types of diapers and see what floats your boat.

Paci - mam for my son, my daughter would NOT take any kind of paci

Cloth diapers: Thirsties Fab Fitteds w Bummis Whisper Wrap covers & Very Baby fitted customs w the bummis covers

Disposables: Huggies

Bottles: I breastfeed and pump at work - Tommee Tippee & Dr. Brown's (also LOVE Tommee Tippee bottle bibs, saves the clothes! We tried one of each and she preferred the Tommee's. If nursing, I would recommend starting with ONE bottle of each, just buy one at a time to try with a #2 (medium flow nipple). Mine became frustrated w the slow flow #1 nipple and took me a while to figure out - start them at 3 weeks!

Pacifier - don't offer unless they really need it, but otherwise MAM.

I like Pampers as well - although with the DryMax stuff in them now I've only bought the Pampers Sensitive for my baby due next month. I've also gotten some Huggies too. I LOVE Playtex Vent-air bottles, used (and will use again) the wide ones cause they have a nipple more like a breast than the regular ones (I breastfed when I was home so they only got used when I had to work). I like Soothie pacifiers, although my 3yr old used them for only a couple months before finding his thumb (which he still uses). I plan to have a couple on hand for the next in case he's a binkie baby and not a thumb sucker too :)

I loved the swaddler's from Pampers....I was sad they didn't carry them in bigger sizes. My son is two and I now use Earth's Best.

I didn't use bottles can I can't help you with that. When my son started using a sippy cup, I started out with Nuby.

As far as paci's go....I've also loved Mam. The cool thing about them is they are never upside down.

For diapers, we liked Huggies until they reached size 3, and then switched to Pampers Cruisers.

Bottle was the Playtex Ventaire, hands down!

Pacifer is a little different... My son swore by the Gerber Nuk paci's - we finally had to take it away at 28 months. My daughter used the one from the hospital a handful of times, but never took to one after that.

Good Luck!!

I liked the huggies. Any other leaked like crazy.

Bottles I LOVED the Playtex Advent wide nipple. Some people don't like them because the leak. That's because people don't wipe the threads off on the bottle and lid and thy don't put the nipple in the right way. My son refused any other.
Paci? My son never took one till he was 9 months old. Randomly he just picked one up. He loved the Avent ones.

Love pampers swaddlers. Then switched to huggies. They are cheaper at SAMs club and Costco. I used a cheap bottle with my first born. The important part was the nipple for him. I had to get special nipples from the hospital, that I later found out, was shaped like a MAM. So of course, his favorite paci is a MAM. my second baby, has same type of diapers, but hates bottles and pacifiers.

My husband and I decided to use multiple brands of bottles and pacifiers. We wanted to try and prevent a breakdown if we ever went somewhere and lost the paci and had to buy whatever was available. In the end both of our babies preferred Advent bottles and pacis, but they will use any. Pampers nb swadlers were the best fit, but after that Huggies worked best for us. My opinion is it is best to buy a couple different brands and see what your little one prefers.

answers from St. Louis on

I feel like I am the odd man out here. I liked huggie newborn for the simple fact that they have a little line that changes colors when the baby is wet. Pampers has this on their size 1 diapers. We do the playtx drop in system and haven't had any problems. We started with the hospital paci's and used them for the first 4 months, but since there isn't any plastic when the baby spits it out there was no telling where it would bounce. So now at 6 months old we are using the NIK and we love them.

P.S. With diapers every child is different. I would suggest not stocking up on one particular brand as that brand may not agree with you child. We bought several packages of several different kinds and then picked which one we liked best. I.e. when my son poops he always poops out of pampers, but never huggies or luvs. When he pees he always pees out of luvs. So we have stuck with huggies.
