Nightmare Before Christmas Movie

My four year old told me that the daycare let them watch this movie. The youngest kids watching would be an older 3 and then kids up to 10 or so that are there for after care. I don't know much about this movie, so I'm not sure if this is a good movie for the younger ones to be watching or not. They normally watch a Disney movie in the afternoon during pick up, so this kind of threw me. Anyone care to enlighten me? Thanks!

ETA: Ok, didn't know this was Disney. They usually have Toy Story, Lion King, one of those type movies playing.

What can I do next?

My kids loved this movie.. it was a bit dark, but they thought it was awesome! They knew it wasn't real. They still hum the music now and then...

Probably not much scarier than Winnie the Pooh (the original one). Seriously... my son used to get freaked out by the Heffalumps and Woozles in that weirdo psychodelic scene... My kids liked the Nightmare movie. My daughter was probably about 4 when she saw it, but my son is 3 years older than her, so she saw some things sooner than she might have otherwise. Never anything she couldn't 'handle' though. She was good at self-awareness even then. If it was too much for her, she'd say so and get up and go do something else. She was fine with that movie.

My kids have all loved this movie since they were tiny! My oldest wanted to be Jack Skellington for Halloween when he was a little over 2, he ended up being Zero the dog (ran out of time to sew due to evacuating for a huge wild fire that year). We watch it every year while decorating our tree at Xmas and while putting on costumes etc before going out for Halloween. They look forward to when Disneyland decorates the Haunted Mansion at Halloween until after the New Year in Nightmare B4 Xmas, that can't get enough! My 2 year old daughter has had a Sally doll for at least a year that she picked out herself and loves to bits.
It is by far one of my favorite movies of all time.
I guess if your child is easily scared they may not like it but around here we LOVE it!

My kids LOVE that movie, ditto for 'The Corpse Bride'... yeah, it's not your normal Disney princess movie, but it's a love story all the same :)

Depends on the kid. I think Sleeping Beauty is way scarier.

This is not only my kids Favorite movie but I have Jack Tattooed on my Fore Arm to remember to always stay true to Who you are.

The movie is dark.....in the sense that they live in Halloween Town...and they are dead.

Other then those two things...The movie is not that bad.

If you want to reach for something Positive in the movie..The message is to stay true to who you are...

Here is the plot of the movie so you know it is not moribed or gross.

Jack stumbles upon Christmas town while walking through the woods.

He decides outta the kindness of his skeleton heart to help santa out...by doing Christmas for him that year.

dead people should not be in charge of christmas...When he gets to Christmas town..With his snake that eats trees and other Halloween..made Christmas items....Christmas twon starts freaking out...

Jack then has to go save Santa from the boogie monster....who is a bright glow in the dark THING...He is just gross..not violent or scary really.

If you judge it by the cover...you would probably not want your little ones watching...but if you were to actually sit down and watch it...you may find you have e different opinion of the movie.

I am a bit obsessed with NMBC:)So waking up to this question is fun for me!!!

This was my young nephew's very favorite movie. It wasn't scary for him at all.
It's a bit of a love story, really.
Some kids may be more sensitive, but my nephew adored this movie.

I bought it for my daughter when she was in preschool. It's a Tim Burton movie, about the folks in Halloween Town deciding to take over Christmas. We love it at our house, and we have watched it every year at Christmas time since I bought it.
It is a comedy, but a dark one, as most of Tim Burton's work is.

It's probably not one that REALLY young kids should be watching... I just checked, and it's rated PG... My brother loved this movie as a kid, but he was 7 when it came out and was reading Michael Crichton's "Jurassic Park" at the time. (He didn't scare easy AT ALL.)

I like this movie, but my DD would be scared by the Boogey Man sequence. I think it's better for older kids then preschoolers. I would ask them not to show it again.

Lots of things I never thought would bother DD do. DD has only seen an edited version of Bambi...I skipped the part where his mom died. And where Muntz captures the bird in Up...very scary for her. "Disney" or "Pixar" doesn't mean "good for this age group". There are other things they could watch. Many kiddie shows are on DVD, Veggie Tales, etc.

For 4 yo, no, but I love this movie and so do my older kids. Some of the other Disney movies have scary parts, but this one is a little much for the younger set. I would say that 6 would be okay for it, though.

I wouldn't personally show this to a young child. I liked when I was a teenager and my younger siblings were maybe 8 and 10 when they watched it. It has some scary parts in it. I say if it's not rated G then don't show it.

It was one of our daughters favorite movies when it came out.. It is not scary when you watch it.. The animation is reminding people not to judge people by what they look like.

The creatures are actually very kind and make Christmas happen..

Personally, I think it's scary for that age. Great movie, but scary. Although, i guess every Disney movie has scary parts.

Uh yeah...no.
It's a bit much for such small kids to watch.
The parts w/ the 3 naughty kids and Oogey Boogie (or whatever his name is) still bother me. Could easily see some parts freaking kids out-when he unzips himself and bugs fall all over the place...
My almost 6 year old has not been allowed to watch it yet and my DH loves it (he would not allow it).
I would be talking to them about that!
Totally inappropriate!

ETA-Just because it's Disney means nothing...Disney has lots of movies I would deem too violent and scary.
Didn't Disney make "Something Wicked This Way Comes"-would you let your 4yo. watch that?

This is an odd movie to me and I would just express my feelings to the teacher that I didn't think it was an appropriate movie since many parents may not have seen it too. I don't know the rating for this movie, but I think if it's not G rating, the daycare shouldn't even consider showing it.

I love that movie! It's the movie we watched on our honeymoon, so it's dear to us for some weird reason. But I would not let my 4 year old watch it (and we let him watch a lot of pg-13 movies that we research). Just too scary.

Well, this IS Disney ... but I probably would not have shown a movie other than G to kids in general.
