Hi I wanted to become pregnant again this summer, but just found out yesterday that my husband's insurance at work does NOT cover maternity. (We just have a sort of "accident" insurance) I also know that we do not qualify for Utah medicaid. I think buying private insurance that covers maternity is going to be too expensive. Please help me think of other options. I did hear online about a Maternity Advantage program but read a review that said it is a scam. Does anyone have any experience with this company? Oh and I also have a medical condition that requires me to have a C-section so homebirths and birth centers are out. Thanks for any help you can give!

What can I do next?

I have the same problem, so I just apply for supplemental insurance policies when I am planning on having a baby. I found an agent a few years ago that I love...He's very knowledgable and he makes everything easy and quick. One thing to keep in mind about these policies is that they have to be in force 10 months before the baby is born. So, plan ahead and get insured...wait a month or two (depending on if you think you will go full term), then try to conceive. His name is Duane Anderson...and his number is ###-###-####. Tell him I sent you!

I think the supplemental health plans are a good idea. Such as Assurity and Aflac. You can purchase a certain amount of coverage based on how much you can afford to put into it. With Aflac you are covered if you are on it for a month before you get pregnant. So if you have your baby a month early you just need a dr's note saying it was early. With Assurity you must be on the plan for 10 months at least.

The way they work is you pay for coverage in case you have to go to the hospital, sleep overnight in the hospital, etc. This happens to apply to having a baby. It's not "maternity" coverage. With one plan, you would pay about 50 dollars a month and get a certain amt for checking into the hospital, and then for an extended stay. So you could buy 2 plans and pay 100 dollars a month and get 2500 dollars back when you have the baby. They send you a check. Good luck!

Hi M.. A friend of mine had the same problem. They called affleck and one other insurance company. They Paid them like 120 a month and the other one 32 a month. It covered the whole pregnancy than at the end of the pregnancy they both cut them a check for totalling over 6 grand. so after having to pay out to them every month they came out on top with over 4 grand. Just in case you wanted to look into it. I'll try to get more info for you.
Good Luck!

We also are currently using Aflac as a supplemental insurance to help cover maternity costs. If you want more information call Marty Ferguson
Salt Lake County-###-###-#### or toll free 866-576-0062. THat's what we did and an agent came to us and helped us look over the different options. They have options for c-sections. we haven't used it yet (I'm due in a week), but I have talked to other couples who did the same thing and liked it. The only thing is that you cannot be pregnant when you sign up. Good luck.

You could look into AFLAC or Allstate supplemental hostpital indemnity insurance (I don't know exactly what it's called, but it's something like that). We had a policy with each company with our last baby and between the two of them they paid out enough to almost cover our $5000 maternity copay. It is a supplemental insurance, and is intended to be used when you have other insurance, and it pays out cash for any hospital stay, including maternity. Our monthly premiums for the two policies added up to about $100 a month. If it is used for maternity, the baby has to be born at least 10 months after the insurance is started. To be safe, we didn't go off birth control until the insurance was in effect. We were really happy with it and are maintaining our policy "just in case" another baby comes along in the next couple of years.
You could ask your insurance agent about it, or email me if you want me to give you the information to contact my agent.
