I am now 26 weeks pregnant and I live in the UK and I intend to move to the US (phoenix)mid January around my 32nd week. This is my first pregnancy and you can imagine I am a little stressed about this move at this stage of the pregnancy.

I am looking for a great private OBGYN and advanced, clean hospital for antenatal care and delivery. I am very keen on having a natural delivery and I really do not know what type of related support exists in the US for this. I will be living in the Chandler area and would like not to have to travel very far.

A friend of mind recently delivered in the Banner Desert Medical Center and she was satisfied with the care there. Is this hospital recommended, or do you know of better hospitals in the area.

I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you very much

So What Happened?

I gave birth a month early to a beautiful baby boy, Tarek, in Banner Desert Medical Center. Everyone was great, My doctor, Dr. Holmes, was really sweet and supportive, although he did do an episiotomy without checking in with me first. The nursing staff were all really nice too. The hospital pediatrician was horrible though, he was extremely rude with me.

I live in mesa, which is very close to chandler. I have had the same OBGYN for about 6yrs now. His name is Louis Prochniki. He has been a practicing OB for 20+ yrs. I did a lot of recerch when I first became pregnant with my first child and he came highly recomended. He was a the time of my first childs birth the head of the OB department at Banner Desert hospital in Mesa. I had complications with both of my children due to a previous condition, and he was very helpful through everything. He has a small private practice, and he sees all his patients at every visit. He also was the only doctor that I could find in the area that delivers all his own patients babies. A lot of other doctors will let the doctor on call deliver. I hope this can be of help to you!! Good luck and congradulations :)

Goodman & Partridge is a private OB office. www.azmomdocs.com. Apparently Goodman is Chief at Chandler Regional too. Depending on your insurance I think unless you have to get a referral. But I had Dr. Christine McClusky and she was great.

But, I don't know for sure if I'd go back to them since they didn't deliver my friend's baby. There is suppose to be 6+ doctors on rotation to deliver and no one from this clinic did. It was whoever was on-call at the Mercy Gilbert Hospital. And it ended up being where my friend and her baby boy was air-lifted by helicopter to Banner Desert because he had "juices" stuck in his throat. He didnt' get out of NICU for 4 weeks. He's doing great now.

So, hard to say, I, too am looking for someone else.

Also a side note, if you get a PA, and what you find out, wasn't the best service, insist on a MD or OD doc...you're insurance is paying for it, get the best you can.

I delivered at Paradise Valley Hospital while its a little bit of a drive I too live in Chandler and they do offer alot of support on natural child birth & breastfeeding. I do also know people that have delivered at Banner Desert and that is also a pretty nice hospital. I would not recommend Chandler Hospital though just from past experiences with myself & others..

There is a brand new hospital in Gilbert called Mercy Gilbert Medical Center on Val Vista and Pecos Road, just off the 202 freeway. Gilbert is right next to Chandler, and with the Hospital being right off the freeway, it makes the trip even quicker. Since it's a brand new hospital, it is very clean, and I hear that it's extremely nice and the rooms you stay in after you have a baby are very big and spacious. I plan on having my baby there this summer. As far as natural birth goes, there is a natural birthing center in Phoenix called the Bethany Women's Health and Birth Center that I looked into, but I opted against it because I want to have the option of using an epidural if I feel like I need one, and it's a little far, probably 45 minutes to an hour away in good traffic. Good luck!

I had my last child at Chandler Regional Hospital and I found that they were great. The only downfall is that they are not equipped for serious problems with the baby should any arise. My daughter had some small problems which they handled wonderfully but for the more serious cases they e-vac them to Banner Desert. This time I'm having my baby at Banner Desert just because it is closer. I'm glad that I am because my son has already tried to make an early arrival. They were fantastic and it made me feel good that if he should come early this hospital is the best in neonatal care. Everyone is really nice and understanding. If you decide to have you child at Chandler I highly recommend Dr. Eddy. He's great and located just outside the hospital.

Good Luck,
A.

The Banner Hospitals are known for being nice and having everything incase of an emergancy. DO NOT GO TO CHANDLER REGIONAL HOSPITAL!!! I recently had a family friend tell me she lost her baby there because the back up Docter wasn't there and the on call doctor took an hour to get there, when there were complications with her birth. They don't have incubation facilities there and by the time the doctor showed up to make the call to have her baby air-vaced to another hospital it was too late.
I can't imagine.
I've heard they have many lawsuits aginst them due to not having the required amount of doctors there at all times.

I have another friend who went to the emergency room there because she was expeariencing bleeding and cramping after she found out she was pregnant. They told her she had misscarried. Aout a month later she found out from her regular doctor that she was still pregnant. She feels horrible because after being told she'd misscarried she had gone out with friends drinking, tring to cope with her loss.

I went to Chandler Regional Hospital for my secound child and loved it. I had a REALLY bad experience at Banner Desert so I would not go there. As for an OBGYN I would highly recommend Dr. Karen Starkey she is in a complexe around Chandler Regional. Her number is ###-###-####. She listens to you and your partner, never rushes you at all, and knows that all pregnancies are not the same.

My OBGYN is great, her name is Dr. Joan Warner and she is located on Chandler blvd across from Intel. The address is 5505 W Chandler Blvd. The phone number is ###-###-####. She delivered my son at Chandler Regional Hospital and I had a wonderful experience. They just remodeled the whole maternity ward and the birthing rooms are very nice and large. The only thing is that if you want a natural birth, I do not think they are equipped with birthing "whirlpool" type tubs. But I highly recommend her and the staff at Chandler regional too. Best of luck!

Hi S.,
Congratulations on your new upcoming arrival. I have a one year old son. Banner Desert Medical Center has a great reputation. In fact we have a family friend who works in NICU center. Great hospital. Also another great facility to check into is Good Samaritan Hospital. I wish we would have gone there when my son was there. We had my son at St. Joesphs and I do not reccomend them at all. We had a very negative experience there. Good luck!!

If you are going to be in Chandler you might want to consider going to the Chandler Regional Hospital. In the campus of the hospital there are medical buildings and in them is a fabulous OBGYN group called New Horizons Womens Care. They have six (or so) great doctors and all the techs and office staff are great too. All of my friends have gone to them and all four of us have had the same great care there. ###-###-#### , that is their phone number! Have a great day!

I would very highly recomend Chandler Regional Hospital and the Obgyn in the same complex as the hospital. The hospital is very clean. I had my first son there and plan to have my second one there as well. Just whatever you do stay away from Tempe St. Lukes talk about NASTY and unsanitry. Lol!!
