Old question/She Gave Back the Painting.

Last year I posted about a painting that I was trying to get back from some friends of ours. You can read about it here http://www.mamapedia.com/questions/18370150975014174721

I ended up approaching M's sister last spring and asked her what she thought I should do. She sincerely believed her parents should give the painting back to us and offered to intervene. She told me that she would offer a piece of her artwork to take the place of it in their home.
Last night, the family came to eat with us at our restaurant and they brought the painting back. I thanked them, was assured there was a replacement provided (although the mother kind of rolled her eyes, as if to say the sister's painting wasn't quite up to par - but it was amusing more than anything) and it's now above my fireplace. I could tell the mother was sad to see it returned, but not sad enough to refuse to return it. She knows I have a great deal of sympathy for her and neither of us would have allowed something like this to be a long-standing issue.

I just wanted to update and figured no one would go back 8 months to check the SWH :)

And (as required) I have a question: DO you go back and look at really old questions to see if people update there or do you figure they will simply post again?

What can I do next?

I'm so glad you wrote again about this. I remembered once you reminded us of this.

I'm glad you had a family member intervene. (Better than a lawyer, especially since the sister offered...)

I was given an original piece of art from a friend who actually put my name on it, as a gift to me. I would be really upset if someone borrowed it and it took me 7 years to get it back. My friend is alive, but still...

I hope that you consider getting this piece of art insured. I'd also take it down if you have a fire in the fireplace... (you don't want heat from the fire to eventually damage the paint...)

Yes, I totally remember your old post and dilemma.

What a happy ending for you!

However, I imagine it was the final nail in the coffin for the mother, to lose 2 sons, and a piece of beloved artwork that provided a glimpse into her sons' mind. Not an easy choice for her. But sweet that you were so patient with her mourning.
