Orthopedic Surgeon Needed for Broken Foot

Help! I broke my foot 3 months ago and it is not healing at all. My orthopedic doctor says that it should be healing, but he won't be worried unless it doesn't heal in 6 months. Does anyone have a great orthopedic doctor to recommend? Ideally, it would be someone who specializes in feet.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all your help! I went to Dr. Crates. He told me that my foot wasn't getting enough circulation due to the boot and location of the break in my foot. With the physical therapy, exercises and massage (and some prayer), my foot went from 0% healed to almost completely healed in 3 weeks! Dr. Crates and I both cheered when looking at the x-ray change over such a short period of time. BTW, the physical therapists at Baylor Irving are fabulous.

Good for speeding healing is Bone and Tissue by Solary-you can get it at a good health food store like Roy's or Ann's. It's cheap and effective, high in silica and homeopathic nutrients.

Wow! It looks like Dr. Crates wins, hands down.
I still have to give you the name of my Podiatrist. Dr. Victor Schechter has an office in Allen. He operated on my Achilles tendon and hammer toes recently and I am doing great. He is head of the Podiatry Dept at Presby. Dallas.

Brian Strauss, MD ###-###-#### with offices in the Park Cities, Frisco and I believe in Irving. Everyone in this specialists group is amazing. In my line of work I have referred people there throughout the years and have never had a bad result. And, I would definitely keep it with an Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in feet. Not a general ortho.

Dr. Paul Freudigman at Baylor Dallas is absolutely the best. He is a trauma orthopedic surgeon. He fixes a lot of mistakes other doctors make (he never says this himself, but it is true).

I had a severely broken leg that was incorrectly treated by my first ortho doctor. I was unable to walk without pain for five years. Dr. Freudigman knew immediately what was wrong and he fixed it. It has healed very well and I am now pain-free and can walk normally, for the first time in five years!

Just get on the Baylor Dallas website and look up his name for his office number. He is not only the best doctor around, he treats his patients with lots of courtesy and respect. Best wishes!

E.,

I just had double bunions removed in December. I am on the road to recovery now. I recommend Dr. Robert Young in Mesquite, TX. He has also preformed surgery on my mother and my sister's mother-in-law. Great staff and great Dr. The offices are kind of outdated as far as the furntiure goes but I would rather the Dr. be good instead of the furntiure being nice. My mother has known him through working at the same hospital where he sees patients for over 25 years.

His number is ###-###-####

Good Luck!

Dr.John Noack at Presby Dallas. He also goes to Frisco one day a week. I am a nurse practioner so I tend to be informed and somewhat picky. Initially I was seeing a doc at the carroll clinic which is well known for their orthopedic care. I wasn't getting better and I started checking around. Dr. Noack and his partner Dr. Cook are foot and ankle surgeons. They are awesome. The office is effecient. I cannot say enough good things about them. Sorry I don't have the number handy but you can do a google search on line.

E., you didn't say where you were located and how far you want to travel to see an orthopedic. Dr. Ted Peters did my ankle when I broke it because Dr. Pat Peters was out of town.

I believe him and his brother, Pat, are doing opposite now...Ted doing the lower torso and Pat the upper...used to be the other way around.

But in honesty, I recommend Dr. Craig Saunders very highly. He is in Bedford. He has done a rotator cuff surgery which not even Dr. Ted or Dr. Pat would touch. They only wanted to give me cortisone shots for the rest of my life. I have had no problems with my shoulder and was never in pain after the surgery! Dr. Saunders has also done both my hands for carpal tunnel..again, no pain...no scars!! He will be doing my knees later this year! He is a great doctor. I also suffer from back problems, but he told me no surgery yet because it could be my knees causing the problem...other doctors would have put me under already! If you have seen a orthopedic already and need another opinion, don't hesitate to call him. The number to the office is ###-###-####. Good luck and I hope you make the right choice and that you heal soon!

I've got a great orthopedic foot surgeon (all he does is feet). Dr. Eugene Curry ###-###-####. A couple of years ago I dropped a frozen chicken on my foot (the equivalent of a bowling ball) & needed the entire joint reconstructed (shaving the protruding bone,....). He did an excellent job, his staff was great, and he has a wonderful bedside manner. I have no problems w/my foot now.
Five stars.
Good luck,

My brother is going through the exact same thing at this time. He has a "Jones Fracture". It is a specific fracture unique to a specific section of bone in the foot. It just so happens to be in between blood supply so it is slow to heal. His orthopedist is supposed to be the best. (he was refered there from his original doctor) My brother is not quite at the 3 month mark yet but his Dr. is recommending a bone stimulator to (obviously) stimulate growth. Insurance will cover it after the 3 month mark. His info is below.

Dr. Nicholes in Mansfield

Hello E., I know all too well that we have to get the best care for our feet. In the last 8 years, I have broken both ankles. The last accident was 1 1/2 years ago. My surgeon was Zubin Khubchandani in Coppell. He was the surgeon on call at Baylor-Grapevine when they brought me in via ambulance. I had 2 plates and 12 screws put in to repair my foot and ankle. I felt he did an amazing job. I hope you get some good help soon and I highly recommend him. He doesn't specialize in feet but treats a lot of sports injuries. His number is as follows- ###-###-####.

E.,
I totally understand your frustration. I broke my 5th metatorsal in '06 and was in one of those of so fashionable shoes for 7 months. I broke it longways on the bone instead of the short way (across) and it seperated approx. 2 mm. just at the point where it was on the line of having to have surgery to treat it or not. We decided to go the conservitaive way and not do surgery, since surgery won't necessarily speed healing. Your age, bone density and other factors have a great deal to do with how fast you heal and how much bone has to be made. If you are only at 3 months thats 12 weeks, under ideal healing they say 6-8 weeks but it actually takes a year for the break to be completely healed. The new bone to harden and such. I don't know your age but my doctor told me once you hit 39-40 the healing process slows a great deal, so try and be patient I know it's hard. I went from May to Nov. with my cute lil shoe and pain/swelling for a good part of that if I over did. I bought fancy socks for that foot LOL red/white/blue for the 4th of July, Halloween ones, funky colors tried to make some fun with it.
I hope this helps some. Keep your chin and foot up ;)

Cannot recommend one... but if you have a sport's clinic near you... that would be the best option- they have specialist in all fields.

Also would recommend you taking some extra vitamins- vitamin B complex, vitamin E, Calcium and magnesium. Magnesium helps calicum and vitamin D adhere and do their job with making bones stronger.

Hope your foot heals up soon.
