Would love to hear your tips on packing or organizing baby's suitcase while travelling/visiting family. We will be gone for a month(yeah a long vacation!!) and with the amount of clothes and toys and other things we need to take , I am trying to find a way to organize better so that I remember to use what I have taken , find it easily instead of having to search for an hour for one single item I am looking for and also don't misplace/lose half the stuff by the time we are back. We are travelling outside USA , so I am taking a LOT of things my son uses here(not that I can't buy similar things there but just for him to be as comfortable as possible in a new place). He is 10 months old.
Do you have any tips for packing your kids suitcase in the most efficient way that works for you everytime. Would love to hear. Thanks!

What can I do next?

When I my children were little and we took long trips, I would pack an outfit, panties, socks, hair ties, everything but shoes in a ziplock baggie. That way, no problem when it came time to dress my kids, and all we had to find were the shoes. I also rolled their clothes as it seems to take up less room. Squeeze all the air out of the ziplock and you are ready to go! I also found that for wet/soiled clothes, it was very handy to have waterproof bags to store things in until I could get them washed.

I also packed jammies into one large bag and also stored their toothbrushes/toothpaste in the same bag. That way, when it is bedtime and time to brush teeth, everything is together.

I hope this helps!

I pack VERY light. You can do laundry there, so I'd pack 1 week of clothes. You don't need to take a ton of toys. Anytime we travel there is so much to explore that our kids don't really want their toys much. You will be somewhere new and it would be fun to bring back a couple toys and a few books from that place (that remind you and your son!), so leave room in your luggage for this. I'd pack one sippy cup and plan on buying another if you decide you really need it. I bring some diapers but then buy what I need at our travel destination.

Buy diapers as you travel. At 10 months is he on a sippy cup? Take only a few. Take a few diapers and wipes with you until your destination. Take only a few small toys and a dozen bibs so you can keep clothes cleaner and not have to take as many. I'd take 2 pair of jammies in case he leaks through one. One pair of shoes unless he is walking??? then maybe 2 pair. Swim trunks and travel size shampoo and baby lotion, diaper cream.

those plastic zip bags that bed linens come in work great. I save the ones that house pillow cases and such. You can organize and see whats in them. Also gallon zip lock bags. I acctully put whole outfits in plastic, that way grandma and dad can dress baby and don't have to feel so lost. I do diapers, blankets , toys in big canvas costco bag for car and organization for in your room. also, buy your diapers on location, only travel with what you need plus a little. Seperate bag for toiletries/ medicine.

A month long trip - wow! I'd take plenty of clothing and fewer toys. My son frequently peed/pooped through diapers and spit up or drooled, so we would have needed a dozen thick bibs, and at least seven of everything - long sleeves onesies for naps, pants, long and short sleeved shirts, and a few hoodies. I'd maybe take one pair of shoes and definitely take a lot of large zip locs. They can help you organize your clothes and also allow you to label each bag, making it easier to find stuff. I have a seperate bag, like a makeup case, for medicines - so mylocon, tylenol, antihystamine creams, etc. would all go in one location. Another big bag/make up case type of thing for shampoos and sun tan lotion. I'd buy some toys while you are there, as kids tend to like novel toys. Hope this helps. We travel a bit I've found that having things comparmentalized in one way or another helps M. most. Good luck!

I use a suitcase that I can unzip from the side so I see most everything in it right away. I pack each "category" separately so I can get to it when I need it: onesies, long-sleeved onesies, pants, sleep-n-play, blankets. I pack fewer toys than many because my kids like to "play" with many of my things: strings on hooded sweatshirts, zippers, etc. I still pack board books, but not as many as others do. And I set a limit beforehand and stick with it! For example, everything MUST fit in this suitcase. If I find it's not fitting, I take things out. (Or try to shove!)

Good luck!

Are you using an actual suitcase or a duffel bag? If it's an actual suitcase it might be worth getting some tupperware containers to sort things out, and then you can label them. That way when the top is open, you will have everything seperated out and easily identifiable in front of you. I would put clothes just in the suitcase, then all diaper-related stuff in one container, all 'play' stuff in one, all medicines (teething stuff, sunscreen, tylenol, etc.) in one, all 'comfort' stuff (lovey, stuffed animal, whatever) you get the drift. :)
