Pregnancy Test - San Antonio,TX

Is there a pregnancy test that will provide accurate results, without waiting for a missed period? Not sure, if my medication is making me experience common side effects, or if I am PG. Been taking meds for about a year and a half, and never experience any side effects. Would like to know sooner, so no damage is done to the unborn fetus. I'm taking 2 antidepressants and Lamictal. Don't want to spend $30.00 on a co-payment, if I test negative.

I also buy my pg tests at the Dollar Tree. They are cheap and test at 25miu so even sooner than some of the more expensive brands out there!

The most accurate is a blood test at the doctor's office but they are unable to tell until you are at least 10 days after conception. I tested negative on the over the counter pregnancy tests that says "results up to 5 days before missed period" on the day my period was due; 2 days later, still no period, and it was a very faint line showing pregnancy. If you are concerned about medication involving the fetus, I would contact my doctor instead of doing the home test.

The First Response brand of Preg. tests makes one where you can test 5 days before you are supposed to start your period, provided you know when you are supposed to start. I think you can get a double pack for around $15 at Walgreens.

With taking ofantidepressants it would be worth going and having a blood test done if you believe you are pregnant. You could you try to go to a Planned Parenthood to have a test done..not sure what the cost is if you have insurance it may be less than the $30.00 copay??? Call them and see. Or one more idea, I have found places like Dollar Tree have tests too....most dollar places have fantastic finds!
Good Luck!

Most of the pregnancy tests on the market today are accurate within 1-2 days after last having sex. Most are available in 2-3 packs - so in case you think you may have gotten an incorrect reading you and test again.

You might want to do some research on the meds you are taking to see how they counteract with each other as well as with missed periods.

If you've been taking your medication for over a year, and nothing else has happened recently, you should be well past the time of weird side effects.

You should call your doctor if you think you could be pregnant and are concerned about the possible effects our medications.

An OTC test is just a measurement of the presence or absence of HCG (of course at a certain minimum levels). Some of them may detect HCG at a lower level, but the "normal" level varies widely from woman to woman--that is the reason that a pregnant woman can get a negative test even after missing a period. Her HCG level just hasn't gotten to a detectable level. No OTC test is going to be accurate 1-2 days after having sex. They all detect HCG and rises in HCG levels don't kick in until implantation of the zygote...could be over a week after fertilization!

A blood test in a doctor's office, especially if you want to detect very early pregnancy, is often two draws done 1-2 days apart to see if HCG levels are rising as they should. But as I understand it, the blood tests generally can't detect until about 11 days after conception...if you have a regular cycle you are just a few days from a missed period at that point anyway.

Good luck. I hope you get the answer you and your family want.

Well negative tests are tricky because regarless of the test you can get a false negative. When I was looking into all this before I got pregnant I read that First Response was the most accurate and could be taken like 5 days before a missed period. However, I still didn't show positive until I think the day my period was due. So if you do test early and it is negative that still won't be a guarantee that you aren't pregnant. I think I would just call the dr and see if they can do a blood test because you have a good reason and I believe they can tell very early that way. Best wishes!!

I buy the tests at Dollar Tree. IF you don't find them in the personal care department look for them at the registers. I got a positive test 9 days after I ovulate. For some that's 5 days before period starts. For me it was 10 days before my period was due but I had ovulated early.

Anyway, the only time it hasn't worked for me was when I peed on it. Don't pee on it, pee in a little cup or something and follow the directions. If you get the window wet it won't work.

Hi!

My first question would be how long ago did you have your period? Are they regular? Have you had any irregular bleeding? Do you know when you ovulate? The best early home kit I have heard of is the First Response Home Pregnancy kit. But if you take it too early it can give you false positives. (Thats why I asked the questions)
