I'm considering going back to work next fall and am looking for options for my will be 4 year old. I'd like a school that focuses on kindergarten prep and is more school than daycare, but has the option of extended hours. I need care from 7-7:30 to 3-3:30. I'm in the area of Deanna Rose Farmstead and would like something within 10-15 minutes of here.

What can I do next?

I would highly recommend Kids at Heart - near 97th & Metcalf - windmill square. Kim is the director there and was even back in 2000 when my daughter first attended as an infant. She is young for her class (July 26 bday) but is way ahead of some of her peers still. I attribute this to the staff there - it is part daycare and then has a preschool area. Several staff members have been there for years - which says something about the place - very little turnover. My daughter was there for 5 years and my nephew just "graduated" to kindergarten this fall. He's reading at a 2nd grade level. They are awesome there!

Hi A.,
All 3 of my kids have gone to Wee Kids Workshop at 127th / Antioch (behind CVS). We love it !!! We have always done the 9-3 program, but I do know that they do have extended hours. They and a 3/4 year old class then a pre-K 4/5 year old class. The teachers are great. It is a very structured program and we have just had great results!
Maureen is the director.
We looked at a lot of locations but liked this the best for location/$/programs/safety.
I suggest checking it out.

I highly recommend Our Hope Preschool and Kindergarten Prep in Olathe. They have a good curriculum and a fantastic staff. The director, Sandy Miller, is very well-educated and has a great program there. The hours you need are within the hours they operate.

Look into Primrose School in Leawood (near Church of the Resurrection). My friends were very pleased with the atmosphere and their daughter's kindergarten readiness. Good luck!

I have some friends who have been very pleased with All Around Child at 133rd & Antioch (near Hy-Vee and Trolley's).

There is a listing of Johnson County preschools at http://www.kckidsfun.com/2008/11/preschools-johnson-count...

Also, Blue Valley Parents as Teachers is having a preschool fair on January 8th from 6:15-8:00pm at Blue Valley Middle School Commons, 5100 W. 163rd Terrace where you can meet area preschool, parents day, and early childhood directors and learn about their programs
