Recommendation for Sippy Cups That Don't Spill...

Definitely the Playtex, they are primarily what we use. But it's all about the valve - that's what causes the leaks. I hate the Nuby cups!! Ugh milk everywhere. The Playtex cups are great because they have the rubber valves that fit in the top of the cup in 2 places (the top of the cup will have a small hole and a larger one). The valve fits really snugly inside there, and doesn't seem to get loose over time, just fits in there after tons of repeated uses (years!). I have another cup we use, too, and it's a thermos-type cup. Can't remember the brand but I remember the package said "for kids who are too cool for sippy cups." Too cute. Anyway the rubber valve on that cup is interchangeable with the Playtex cups (it might even be Playtex too) so it doesn't leak either.

And you can pick up the Playtex cups at pretty much any grocery store, drug store, or Target. :)

I LOVE playtex. The rubber valve fits tightly in the holes, never leaks. They are insulated too. Very good!!!!
I neve rhad a problem with the nuby, but I like the Playtex ones much better.

Playtex insulator cups work pretty well. I am currently using them on my second. I believe you can also buy just the stoppers for when they wear out but I haven't had to do that yet.

We like the First years cups. They don't leak, and they don't have a separate valve that can fall out. That also makes them very easy to clean- no little grooves to clean out. We've had ours for 2 kids now and they hold up well. Good luck!

We use the gerber ones (w/o handles.) They work well for us with my 2 and 3 year old.

The Playtex/Baby Einstein and Gerber ones are both great. The deciding factor for me though (since their leak-protection is about the same) is that the handles on the Gerber cup are fixed there, so if you don't line the top up correctly, the spout/nipple part may end up right above the handle, making it hard to drink. The Playtex/Baby Einstein ones have the handles on the lid, or no handles, so it's not an issue. Plus there are cute pictures on them. So I definitely suggest Playtex. But make sure it's the Playtext style with the Baby Einstein theme; the other ones don't work as well (for me) and have those removeable handles and too many parts.

We use gerber with/without handles - it has a special valve that does not allow leakage. Also, we like the munchkin brand straw cups.

Personally, I hate the Nuby cups....the soft top mimics a bottle nipple and I don't feel it helps the children get the idea of what a real cup does at all!! I would suggest the PLAYTEX cups. They are hard to find and somewhat expensive...but with the removal valve they offer a training tool that is a relatively spill proof option in the beginning and can provide some resistance to spilling with the valve removed later.
For those who have mentioned that they wear out...they also last a LONG TIME...I have had some for over 15 years!

Try Playtex cups with the rubber stoppers. They are great! I have a 1, 2, and 3 year old and we have very few leaks. The rubbers will wear out after a time, but you can buy replacements for only a couple dollars. The cups themselves last for a LONG time. I've had a couple lids crack, but they were probably 2-3 years old, so I figure we had our $4 out the cup at that point. Good luck.

i agree.....playtex are the only ones that worked for us. you would think, all these companies making kid-proof items, would have tested shaking the cups upside down! :)

but playtex are the only ones of ours that don't leak.

We've always used the Gerber ones. They leak a VERY LITTLE...like 2 or 3 drops as long as you use the valve that goes inside. We tried a lot of different brands and felt these were the best.

Ive found the First Years sippy cups to be a god send! They come with minnie and princesses for my daughter & cars for boys.
I love them because the valve is built into the lid. You dont have to take things apart to clean them, just through them in the dishwasher. Ive tried them all, but now only use these.

I gave up a long time ago trying to find a cup that won't leak when jolted, banged, and dropped.

I decided it was easier to teach my kids not to bang their cups, carry them around the house, or throw them on the floor. I had to be vigilant for weeks, but all of my children learned that cups stay on the table in the kitchen and they aren't carried around the house or thrown on the floor by the time they could walk.

Platex is the best I've found, but not perfect. I have decided to use them for water and they can be around the house. But milk and juice is at the table.

Ditto on the Playtex, if your son shakes it while outside down, some liquid might get out, but not much. I also like the Thermos Fogo sippy cup. It is insulated so it keeps milk cold for (I think) up to 7 hours. Both are BPA free.

We love Playtex, never had a problem with it spilling ;-)

Here's another vote for the Platex cups - they come in all sizes, insulated, uninsulated, and all of the lids are interchangable! No leaks on ours with the exception of one cup that is FIVE YEARS old!

I have tried them all and everyone one of them leaks.

I found the only ones that dont spill are the gerber with that oval insert inside--& I tried all of them...........& the one with the rubber strip inside with the arrow (make sure the arrow points to the bigger openning (forgot who makes that one---I even have the most advanced one without a spout that I am currently using. It has two opennings that it needs to fit into if that helps. It is the Playtex with the rubber double stoppers I am talking about. Those are the only two that I would suggest.

Dr. Brown makes a good one. we found it at Babies R Us.

We use the Rubbermaid containers that have a "straw" that you lift up. They don't spill, unless occasionally when they have been sitting out for a while and pressure builds up inside.

Having tried over 5 different brands (Avent, Gerber, Nuby, BornFree and Playtex), the only brand that usually doesn't leak is Playtex. I put them in the dishwasher every single night and my kids are pretty rough with them. So I'm very happy they've lasted this long!
