Seeking Advice on Starting Veggies with 6 Month Old

My 6 month old went for her check up today and was told to start her on veggies. She currently eats rice cereal & applesauce at noon and 8 p.m. Should I give cereal/apples in the morning and veggies at noon or dinner time? The doctor said by the time she turns 9 months, she should be eating solids 3x/day. She goes to daycare so I want to get her on a schedule of eating morning, noon, evening ... if that is the right thing to do. Any advice is appreciated!

What can I do next?

That's what I did-cereal and fruit in the morning, then veggies at lunch and dinner, and we still follow that same pattern with our 15 month old. That way, you can make sure she gets enough fruits and veggies, and it's easy for you to remember when she had what. And later it will be easy to add foods to this pattern. I'd probaby suggest starting with sweeter veggies first, like sweet potatoes or peas, then after she's mastered those, you can mix in some green beans or squash to get her used to the flavor.

Yes with both mine (4 yrs & 9 mths) we did cereal and fruit for breakfast. Then veggies and cereal for dinner. This changed to veggies and meat once that was introduced. Then we added lunch of veggies and fruit when they were ready.

Hey M.!

Get the book "Super Baby Food" By Ruth Yaron. I LOVE THIS BOOK! It breaks down each month so you know which foods are appropriate to introduce to your baby as she gets older. At this age, their little tummies aren't able to produce the right enzymes to digest certain foods such as citrus, strawberries, corn, etc. So it's important to be aware of what she can eat.

I don't think it matters what time of day she's eating her fruits and veggies. My son would eat brown rice mixed with green beans and bananas for breakfast! Or oatmeal, squash and peas. Apple sauce and carrots. All pureed, of course. I know it sounds weird, but at this age they don't care what time of day they're eating their avocados or pears!

Hope that helps and go get that book!
