Seeking Good Bible Based Church in Youngsville, Erath, Abbeville Area

I would like to get the grandchildren envolved in a good bible based church. We have 4 children living with us and expect to have 3 more living with us before the end of the month. I feel that going to church could help everyone, not only get along but make things easier for everyone. Three of the children have attention problems, so I am looking for something that is not too long. The children have been baptized as Catholic, but I am not and would prefer to go to a Baptist, Methodist or non-denominational church. I realize that churches need donations to survive, but I don't want to attend a church who main sermon is on money. I want the children to learn what is in the bible. We do believe and God and want the children learn about God. Any suggestions in our area?

What can I do next?

C.,
East Bayou Baptist Church is a WONDERFUL church. Great programs, lots of member involvement and young people focus. Brother Mike, the pastor is young-thinking and Christ-driven. Drop by for a visit of give him a call. Tell him Santa sent you.....he'll know who I am.
God bless.

Hi C.,

My family and I attend Harvest Time Tabernacle in Abbeville. I have been going to church there for 23 years. Services are Sunday morning @ 8:30 & 10:30 am. They have Children's church during both services. We also have Wednesday night classes for all ages. This is a non-denominational church.

Also, my in-laws attend First Baptist Church in Lafayette, which I hear great things about there children's programs. We have attended programs there and they were top-notch.

On a personal note, I just want to encourage you as you take in your grandchildren. My parents have taken in one of their grandchildren and sometimes it is very overwhelming, but God will honor you as you sacrifice yourself for them. Keep your head up and God will give you the strength to endure!

Hi C.,
I ,too, am a custodial grandparent living in Lafayette. My husband and I have had our two grandsons, ages 6 and 7, living with us for the past five years. We are both 53.
We attend Riverside Church of Christ, on Camellia Blvd., across from the old Academy building. Here is the church web site for you to check out. http://www.riversidechurchofchrist.org/site3.php
We are a Bible based church and one that is fully integrated which is important to me as one of our grandsons is bi-racial. We have classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights for children of all ages. Our church also has a ministry with Acadiana Recovery Center and ministers to those suffering from addiction with special classes on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Lance Bennett, our minister has as the focus for his sermons 1) our becoming more Christ like and 2)helping people in the Lafayette area as they struggle with the everyday problems that often weigh us down.
I would love to meet you sometime. Our Sunday services are as follows:
Early Worship 8:45
Bible classes 10:00
Worship 11:00
We usually go to early worship. I would also like to invite you to bring the children to our Vacation Bible School which is July 13-16. There is no cost and the children really enjoy the skits, activities and classes.
This is my first post on MamSource, so am not sure it provides a link for feedback, so am including my e-mail addressif you would care to follow up with me.
