Hello mamas,

I am starting a new business, and to ease the burden would like to hire a housekeeper to come either every week or every other week to help out with basic cleaning + a few additional routine tasks, such as some laundry & dishes. I do not, however, have a sense of the going rate for housekeepers. Can you please help me to know how much you have paid, and for what amount of time? Also, I am interested in some leads in the area. I am looking for someone reliable & teachable. I speak Spanish and English, if this is helpful.

Congrats on your new venture. Best of luck with the business. I used to clean homes a few years ago. Without looking at your home...usually a 3 bedroom/2 bath would run about $75.00...sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less depending on if there were animals, kids, extra things the client wanted done. Hope this helps! I know one thing if this economy doesn't turn around &/or I find a job soon...I will be going back to cleaning homes. I did it successfully for 5 years and loved all my clients.

Best of luck again.

The way I figured what I pay my housekeeper was to think about how much time it took me to do the same tasks - without kids interrupting!!! Then I figured about $20/hour. When I interviewed housekeepers, (granted, I was only looking for someone to clean, no dishes or laundry), I waited to hear their bid and then told them what I figured "I think it would take 1 person approx. 3 hours to do what I need done, so I figured about $60" Most housekeepers wanted more - $70-$85 for the job, but the girl that I chose said she would do it for $70.00 and I said that if she felt like it wasn't enough, we could talk about it later. Basiclly, I just try to make mental note of how long she's here so that if she asks for more, I can back up my claim that $70 is plenty. I have a 4000 sq foot house...but I make sure EVERYTHING is picked up when she comes, she doesn't have to make beds, pick up toys in order to clean, or wash dishes. I make sure the sink is cleaned out so all she has to do is clean. In fact, if I could keep the house the way I keep it for her, I would be able to clean it easier! But, I have kids interrupting me and making messes when I'm in another room, so that doesn't happen.

Hi K.,
I was interested in what type of business you are starting. I am a business owner myself and know how hard it is to start your own plus have a family.
I also wanted to refer you to my sister in law who cleans homes, I refer her alot to my clients and she always does a great job! Her name is Mickie Hamilton and her number is ###-###-####.

Best of Luck!

I have had my housekeeper for over 12 years. She has been with me from house to house when I move. She also does several of my friends houses and now another friend of mine who has a photograghy studio. She is awesome and I love her. As for the rates, she is very reasonable, trustworthy and excellent skills. If you would like to contact her, her name is Araceli. She speaks a little English but her daughter Susie who sometimes helps her is a such a beautiful young lady speaks perfect English in case her mom needs help with translation. Feel free to call her and have her give you a quote at ###-###-####. You will love her. Tell her R. Samano gave you her name and Good Luck.

Hi - My mom has been wanting to start cleaning houses, to bring in some extra income. She loves cleaning (yeah, not sure why), and keeps a very tidy and organized household. What part of the metroplex do you live in? She would definitely be interested in what you are looking for. If interested, please email me. Thanks for your time!

I pay $100 for a once a week housekeeper. She cleans the house, washes towels/sheets (not clothing laundry). She changes all the bed sheets, mops all floors (we have a lot of tile), cleans all bathrooms, vacums, dusts. Some rooms are picked up, some are not. Depends on the week. Kitchen may have a couple of dishes, but never a big mess. Stays about 8 hours.
