I think I would greatly benefit from a lactation consultant. I gave birth to 34.3 week boy/girl twins in late June. They were not introduced to my breasts until approx 7-9 days after!!! :( They are not latching well at all. Every few feedings, I can get my son to latch for 3-9 minutes. As for my daugher, the most she was able to latch is for about 3 minutes once every 7 feedings maybe?! Anyone know of any consultants??? Thanks SO much.
I had my first two kids at Advocate Christ Hosp in Oak Lawn. They had a wonderful lactation department on the Women's Wellness floor. You should call the hospital and ask to speak to someone in lactation. I don't think it matters that you didn't give birth there.

I completly understand your problem, i also had the same issue with my daughter and than my son. but for my son i seeked helped and i found this awesome lactation consultant she comes home and is amazing. Her name is Carol Chamblin ph- ###-###-####. Her company name is Breastn'baby and she also has a website www.breastbabyproducts.com. she really helped me and my son and we had a succesful breasfeeding experience after that. Good luck

I don't know of any LC's personally, but I would contact the hospital where you delivered and speak with the LC there.
Also, check out LaLeche League - I do know that they have meetings all over the south and sw suburbs that might be able to help too!

The La Leche league leaders are really good at either themselves helping you or knowing who could. Also, Northwestern Memorial Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago has a free lactation consultation phone line. You can call in and they consult over the phone for free. But, it sounds like you would need someone to be physically with you, so for now La leche. If you go to their website, you can find a local leader near you.
I also wanted to add that you should, if you are not already, just keep pumping to keep your milk supply up. I have a couple of friends whose early twins could not latch on properly at first, and then eventually, some 2 weeks, some 2 months eventually could nurse normally. Keep it up. I have really really enjoyed my nursing relationship with both of my kids when they were babies. It really does create a special bond. Hang in there!
Hi Nicole! I'm sure how close you are to Hinsdale Hospital, but they have an entire department dedicated to lactation counseling. The number is ###-###-####. You will most likely get voice mail, but they respond very quickly! They also use to have a weekly breastfeeding workshop, where you brought your infant with you and the lactation counsler would answer any questions. I'm not sure if it is still offered, but it is nice for first time moms to see each other struggle and succeed! Hang in there, I'm sure it will get better. I think you're amazing for keeping at it!

I had a great lactation consultant. Her name is Jane O'Connor and she is with Lactation Associates. THey are out of Evanston but I think they work anywhere in Chicagoland. I was in a similar situation because my little girl was too small to latch on for the first few weeks. Yet, after working with her for 1 1/2 hours I was doing pretty well and I am still breastfeeding. Her number if you are interested is ###-###-####. Tell her I recommended her please.

I read the advice from the mother above re: Hinsdale Hospital. I delivered there and also work there, and I agree that their Lactation Consultants are great. They do have breastfeeding lunch sessions every Tuesday where you can go with your babies. You will be with other mothers where you can gain advice, etc... Or look into a local LaLeche League mother on the internet. I am sure they can assist you. Best of luck with the breastfeeding. I almost gave up after 1 week, but got some great advice from the Lactation Consultant and am so glad I stuck with it. It was the best experience and bonding time with my daughter, and I sometimes miss it. My daughter was never sick her entire 1st year.
I would start by calling the hospital you gave birth at. Palos Hospital has a good lactation dept.
