Seeking Options for Pet While We Vacation

Hello Mama's - We've always had a dog and we had a great plan worked out with our neighbors while either of us traveled. We have since moved and it's quite inconvenient for either of us to watch the others pets. We are planning a 3 week trip this summer and I'm trying to find a solution for boarding our dog without cutting into our vacation budget so much. Any suggestions? Anyone have any experience with boarding places in Allen, McKinney or Plano? Thanks.

We ude Plano 4 Paws in Inn at Coit and Parker. Nice folks, great prices, and they believe in doggy day care for any well socialized dog at no additional fee. It's $18 - $22 depending on dog size. http://www.planos4pawsinn.com/
On the pricier end there is a place that would probably be great for long term (except for it being more expensive) Doggi'e Wonderland at Alma and Plano Pkwy. They only kennel dogs at night and the rest of the day they have free reign of a big property with play equipment and a pool (looks like a kids summer camp)It's $25 - $50 a day depending on crate/kennel size. http://www.thedoggieswonderland.com/aboutus.html

Woodland Park Pet Resort is who I would highly recommend. They are great with the animals and you will have nothing to worry about while you are gone. They are in McKinney at Custer and 380.

We had our dog boarded with our vet a few years ago while we went away and he was very obviously upset when he came home - as if he felt he had done something wrong and been sent away. We felt terrible and looked for another option for the next time. Since then we have used Pets are Inn in Plano. They have people that take pets into their own homes so the dog is on vacation as well. It has been a great experience on multiple occasions and we highly recommend them.

the owner's name is Debbie Alford. I have not used her myself, becuase we don't have a pet, but i have heard from other friends that they are great. I do know Debbie personally we used to go to the same church and she is great, very profesional and she has a great love for animals.

good luck!

Look into hiring a pet sitter. This a great option especially since you will be gone for so long. A pet sitter can come to your house several times a day, and some sitters will even spend the night at your house for an extra charge. The benefits of having are sitter are that your sweet four-legged friend gets to stay in the comforts of his/her home. Also, the pet sitter can also act as a house sitter(bringing in your mail and newspapers, turning lights on/off, etc.) which will give you peace of mind while you are out of town. If you would like more info. on pet sitters, e-mail me. I'd be happy to talk.

I where do you live? I wouldn't mind looking after her/him for you. I'm a teacher and have the summer off. I have a little terrier mix and a cat. I bet they would get along great. :)

we have used Woodland Park Pet Resort...they have many different options and they are well worth the expense. 3 weeks is a long time and there you will know they are taken care of 110%. http://www.wppetresort.com/aboutus.html

We have used Man's Best Friend many times and have been very happy with them. I have also heard good things about Pappy's Pet Lodge.

I use "Dog's Play" at Parker and Independence.

They are great with my two shepard mixes. One rules the place, the other is much more timid and hangs with the smaller dogs.

3 weeks is a long time for your pet. We are usually not gone longer than 1 week.

We have a pet sitter who moves into our home basically.
I pay her about $50 to spend the night and during the day she comes for about an hour once or so depending on her schedule and I pay $15 for that visit. She knows when my dogs eat, etc and knows our schedule pretty well. Unfortunately...she is not in business anymore and she only comes to our house along with a few other clients she had over the last 14 yrs.

The beauty of having someone in your home also gives your home the "lived in" look so security is a factor as well. Our dogs have never been in a kennel and they would be too stressed to kennel for 3 weeks or even a day.

Good luck!
