We're looking for a pre-school type class for our 3 year old daughter that meets only for a few hours once or twice a week at the most. We're thinking she could benefit from learning to share with other children and follow direction from someone other than her parents. She is very intelligent & head-strong, and is using both qualties to challenge us right now. :) Any recommendations? Thank you!

Rosey's Romper Room in South Lyon offers a flexible preschool schedule. I believe you can go from 1 to 5 days a week. My daughter has been there 14 months and we just adore them. They are at 10 mile and Pontiac Trail.

St Alfred's Parish in Taylor (Telegraph and Wick), sponsors a preschool. I was pretty impressed with their open house when I went this week. They are not pushing Catholicism at all on the children. there are children from all walks of life, very multi cultural, very kind employees. They even brush their teeth after lunch!!! they have full and half days at reasonable prices.

Hi E.,

I'm not sure where you live but my 4 year old went to Tot Spot in Brighton last year for two days a week from 9-11:30. He LOVED it and I LOVED it also! The teachers were AMAZING, the crafts and learning experiences were better than any preschool he or my daughter ever attended (we've moved several times). My son never came home with just worksheets. They made planets out of paper mache, dinosaur fossils it just goes on and on as to the level of creativity.

I am educated as a counselor and I was VERY pleased with their knowledge of child development. I can't say enough good things about the program.

If this is too far away for you, I would strongly suggest that any place you look at have staff certified in CPR and first aid, have degreed staff and ask what the turnover rate is. A school with a lot of turnover is a sign of problems.

Good luck!

I have recently signed my kids up at Hour Kidz in South Lyon. They have a drop-In program where you can bring your kids when you wish. They do run a preschool program for that age and if you were to bring her during that time, she would be part of it. I think they run it 5 days / week but I can't remember the times. You can check their website.

I see in your profile that you are in Northville. Northville Public Schools has an early childhood center. I can't tell you anything about the program. I just happened to come across the website when looking at preschools for my kids a few years ago.

Here's a link to the Northville preschool web site: http://www.northville.k12.mi.us/schools/earlychood/earlyc...

A friend of mine sent her daughters to preschool at the Northville Presbyterian Church and they both loved it. You do not need to be a member to attend their preschool. Here's their web site: http://www.firstpresnville.org/psmain.htm

I live in Plymouth and I opted to send my kids through the Plymouth/Canton preschools. My daughter attended the 3 & 4 year old programs at Canton High School and my son attended the 3 year old program at the high school. The preschool classes at the high school have a teacher, an aide, and about 8 high school students working with the kids each day. The kids get a lot of attention and my kids loved interacting with the high school students. This year my son will attend a 4 year old program at a differnt Canton school that is 4 days a week. There are a lot of different options as far as days, time, and location. Here's a link to the Plymouth/Canton early childhood web site: http://web.pccs.k12.mi.us/earlychildhood/

E., I work in Plymouth at The Salvation Army and we have a preschool, Tiny tots Preschool, and this fall we have 2 options for 3 year olds. They both meet Tuesday/Thursday, for 2 hrs & 15 min. each day. First class meets 8:45 to 11:00 am, second class meets 11:30 to 1:45pm.
There is some information available at www.MiSalPlymouth.org. Look for Tiny Tots under "Community Center."

You may want to check out your local YMCA. I know the one we belong to (in Southgate) has a preschool-type program, and you pretty much choose how many 1/2 days you want to come each week. I haven't used it (my son is too young) though, so I don't have any first-hand experience.

An excellent area preschool that offers may different scheduling options is Echo Park located near 12 Mile and Middlebelt. They are regarded as one of the best preschools in the Oakland county area -- a private, nonprofit preschool. They have preschool classes for 2, 3, or 5 days and you can do just mornings, extended mornings, or full days. In addition, they have a "Transition" program for those children that are not ready for being w/o a parent in a class. They also have lots of after school options and interesting enrichment programs. My daughter will be there for the third year now and she loves it (and so do I)! They have a wonderful facility, so I'd suggest you drop by there to visit at least. You can contact them at ###-###-####. Website: www.echopark.org. Good luck!

Hi E.-
I have a wonderful pre-school in Brighton. It is called 'First Steps Preschool' and it is located on Grand River Avenue, in the First United Methodist Church. I know the Director and she is a lovely woman--has been in the preschool business for many years. My 3 year old will be starting there this September. 2 mornings per week for 2.5 hours each morning. I know they still have a few openings for 3 year olds at this time if you call them quickly. The Director's name is Lisa Guise and her # is ###-###-####. Not sure if Brighton is good for your location, but if it is I'd recommend calling Lisa. Have a great day! K. S

A good preschool is Ward Preschool. It is at Ward Church in Northville. It is located on 6 mile and Haggerty. I see you are from Northville too. So, it may be close to you! My son went there for 2 years and loved it! I loved it too. He has a lot of nice friends from there and the teachers are great! The price is good too! Let me know if you have any questions!

I also have a 3 year old daughter, and we contacted our local school districts. We enrolled our daughter in the Allen Park Public School preschool...it meets 2 or 3 days a week for 2 1/2 hours at a time, so it's a nice ease into things.
Look into the local cities around you...and good luck!
