Seeking Preschool in Lakewood/East Dallas

My daughter is 6 months old and I am wanting to get her on a waiting list for a preschool. I know this is already too late for some preschools! Can anyone recommend a program that they are happy with and give me some details? (waiting list, tuition, how many days a week, how many hours, starting age, etc). Thanks!

What can I do next?

My two boys go to Park Cities Day School and love it (Mockingbird and Inwood). The teachers are very nice and the kids all look so happy. The baby tuition is about $600/ month full time but there is a part-time option as well.

M.,

After looking at a ton of schools from Lakewood/White Rock Lake area, we decided on White Rock North. It is in Lake Highlands area and is a great school. Our son began there at 2 and he has really enjoyed it and learned so much. They have great teachers and a great atmosphere. The playground is right next to the DART rail line, so the kiddos get to watch it go by...they have a horse (Ginger) that the kids can pet and help feed, etc. They have an indoor roller skating rink and swimming pool as well. The school day includes library time, a computer in our son's class, music class two days per week, PE, and options for swim lessons, gymnastics, and dance. When our son began the price for toddlers (2) was $800/month. They have raised that to $820 now. However, in only six months, our son has moved up (at 2 1/2) to the Preschool 3 year old class due to his speaking, etc and the fact that they had him potty trained in about three months. Anyway, once he moved to that new class, the price dropped to $715. Pretty good deal when you consider the costs of other private schools...we just don't see the advantage of sending our son to a St Marks, etc at three and shelling out $16K/year. My husband jokes that our son would be required to graduate from med school at 19 for that amount...lol. Anyway, this school goes thru 8th grade I believe...although we will probably move him to a different private school to begin Kinder or 1st grade. If you have any other questions let me know! Oh..the day is 8:00-5PM...with extended care if needed already included in the price from 7A to 6P. Lunches are provided Monday-Thursday and Friday they bring their own. Hope that helps!

My daughter goes to Wilshire Baptist. I like it a lot and she loves it. Right now she's in the Mother's Day Out program. This year she'll go twice a week. They take 6 month old infants for MDO. I think the preschool there starts at 3 (she'll just be 2 next month). The preschool is M-Th. For MDO this year it's $200/month for 2 days. They do fill up fast around Feb. but you could possibly get in if someone moves.

Good luck.

Hi M.,
My kids went to WRN last year and we enjoyed the classes they were in. I was not very impressed with the facility - it is old and dingy. And, because it has been there for 40 years, some of the principles of education and dicipline seem not to have changed in that period of time. They are very structured - so think, 1950s - opposite of Montissori. I will say that the staff LOVED my kids, which is hugely important!! My daughter attended from 6 mo - 14 months, and my son was in the PK 3 class. He left his teacher practically reading! That being said, I wasn't very thrilled about the classes they were going into with the next years, and it is further away from our house than we really wanted (we live in the M-streets), and we really wanted a dual-language program.

This year, our son is attending Dallas International School and daughter is attending Zion Lutheran (DIS starts at age 3). Both have very reputable 2nd language programs.

There are so many out there! And I have checked out most in our area! Feel free to email me personally if you would like to ask anything else - ____@____.com
