Sharp Pains During 2Nd Trimester

I am just barely in my 2nd trimester - 12 weeks and 5 days - for the past week or so I have had sharp pains. I have had the lower pains on both sides that tend to not go away and understand that it's probably me being all stretched out. These newer pains tend to happen most often if I'm laying down and then get up - then on one lower side, or sometimes even both lower sides - it's a sharp shooting pain that lasts just a few seconds, but it sure hurts. Any ideas what these sharp shooting pains are? This is my 3rd pregnancy/child and I sure don't remember this from the first two.Thank you!

What can I do next?

It's ligament pain, totally normal. It does suck, though. I had it with both of my first two pregnancies, and I'm 7 1/2 weeks pregnant now and already experiencing it again.

To me it sounds like those ligaments are just starting to stretch more. I'm in week 14 and have noticed that I have to be a little slower and more careful when getting up from laying down. I hate much more ligament pain with my first, so I would think you'd have less now that this is your third. Never hurts to call your doctor's nurse though :)

Things are stretching, and pulling- is growing pains.

I am 26 weeks pregnant with my third as well and have had several sharp shooting pains over the last 6-8 weeks or so. Quick sharp pains mostly on my right side like yours and I am contributing them to age and the fact that this is my third. My Doc isn't concerned as they aren't consistant nor are they happening all the time. I am only 35 years old but it feels much different than my first pregnancy when I was 30 :)
Good Luck, take care of you and try not too worry. Congrats!

It's the loveliness of pregnancy.
But, don't be leery to bring it up at your next OB appt, just so your doc knows and can reassure you.
Every pregnancy is different, just like every one of our children is different.
I remember having "after pains" while nursing my second son, and I didnt have those after nursing the first. It freaked me out. But, I learned that it was normal, but it sure made the first month of breastfeeding hard... it felt like labor all over again during letdown, omg, I was so scared something was wrong.
It's crazy being a mother, it really is. So, you are not alone here, that's for sure. We are all in the same boat ;)

I would think they are round ligament pains. Totally normal. Do describe it to your doctor next time you go and he can confirm.

Sounds like round ligament pain, which is completely normal! Call you doctor just to be sure, but I had this with both pregnancies.
