I have a 4 1/2 month old that has been on Similac Advance brand since she was about 2 weeks old. Not sure if you have heard about the big recall, but of course we had many containers that were recalled. In one day of switching her from the powder to the Similac Advance ready feed she was a totally different child. She is so happy. Well now the problem is with her spitting up. This ready to feed stuff must be a lot stronger or have something different in it. I am sick of cleaning up puke on me and her. Now I have to say that she is so happy no matter how much she pukes. But it gets really old.
So my question is what kind of formula do you use or have you used??? Has anyone had this problem? I called her doctor today and they really don't have something specific they recommend. They leave it up to the parents. The one the nurse metioned was Enfamil. I don't feel confident enough now with switching back to Similac powder because of the bad formula we had before. So what would you do??? I am going to use the remaining formula I have and then switch, I am just not sure which one to switch to.

My son did not handle Similac well - we thought he was getting colic at one point - until we switched formula's - and he was a different baby. Several of my friend recommended Good Start - when we switched to that the problems stopped. The poop was stinkier but he was a happy baby! Good luck!
You can switch to anything that is a powder dairy based and she will probably be fine with it. Enfamil is the equal of Similac, just another name brand. Like buying Gerber or Beechnut---they are both just name brands. Honestly if I was you, I would try out the store brand, it is half the price and it contains the same stuff, you are just paying for the label and the brand. And obviously Similac having to recall all this formula over beetle parts just goes to show you they are no better than any other company, other than maybe their marketing and labeling departments. Formula is regulated and any brand will do--try out the Target and Walmart brand! Compare them side by side in the store and you will see I am telling the truth =)
I used Enfamil Soy when my daughter developed a milk allergy. It was so thick I hated it. I don't know if the Enfamil regular is as think as the Similac, but it's something to think about. I switched to the Babies R Us brand and my daughter did just fine.
The only brand my son could stomach (without stomach problems) was the premixed Enfamil Lipil. Powdered formula of ANY kind made him miserable, and several of the other premixed formulas also made him ill or he just outright spit out and refused to drink more than an ounce or two at a time (when he usually drank 1.5 12oz bottles in a sitting).
As someone who has tasted EACH AND EVERY SINGLE formula out there... they are sooooooo NOT the same. They are all quite different from each other. I mean, beef is beef but there's about 1000 different ways to cook the same beef... even if all of them come out nutritionally the same.
What I wonder, however is if she's spitting up because she's GULPING a formula she really really loves?
- burping during feeding (breaks), and a really long burp afterward
- different flow nipple
We were on Similac too and when it got recalled we switched to Enfamil Newborn and its been great for us!
I switched from Similac Sensitive to the Target brand partially broken down brand. I was really forced to- after the recall, there was no other option. All the Enfamil, Good Start, and non-recalled Similac was sold out and I needed formula immediately. Anyway, I have been extremely happy with it. She takes it well and I have no intention of switch back to Similac. It's also good on the wallet... :)
I used Enfamil for both of my boys who had spitting up issues and it did help. Similac is more gassy then Enfamil in my findings so that is why we stopped using it with our oldest son and didnt even try using it with out youngest. Enfamil Premium is my recommendation, it is more expensive but is totally worth it.
just for the record as someone who used to work for the parent company of similac and spoke to employees (not pr people) there were no beetle parts in the formula, there was an infestation of beetles in the facility that produces/packages the larger canisters of similac. They initiated the recall on the slight CHANCE...unlike other companies ...and I'm not a fan of Abbott, but I have to say I commend them on this recall as inconvenient as it has been for me, I'd rather be a little inconvenienced than risk my baby......
as to the vomiting, I would switch to a slower flow nipple and see if that helps and make sure to burp every couple of ounces, your child may just be "sucking the formula down".....hope that helps.

Goat's milk is the closest to breast milk nutritionally. My niece had the same problem with the spitting up and she tried the goat's milk and it stopped immediately. A friend suggested 2 parts goat's milk, 2 parts distilled water, and 2 parts juiced carrots (for fiber to keep the bowels moving) and it improved even more. The baby's temperament has gone from pleasant to simply happy!
