I am a big advocate on Going Bonkers in Lewisville! Love that place! Reasonably priced for a "walk in party" . I have done DD 2rd and 3rd birthday's there..

For my daughter's 3rd b-day we did it at McDonald's with a playplace. Easiest B-Day party I have ever done in my life! The kids have a blast too!!

Pick two party themes you like and ask him which one he prefers. My 3 yr old I told him to pick between robots and construction (his two favorite things). We ended up with a construction themed party. I had always thought that an M&M party would be fun, since an M&M turned sideways is number 3. Plus the kid loves M&Ms and decor (solid colors) would be easy, as would a cake (chocolate cake with m&ms on it).

I only had one game at my sons 3rd bday party. I blew up ballooons and put a piece of paper (2"x3") rolled or folded up inside with a number on it. Kids had to pop the balloons and the person who found the number "3" won! (There was only one number 3. Lots of the other numbers.) It was a game that my 3 yr old could play b/c he knew his numbers, but it wasn't so lame for the bigger kids either. It was just funny to see them try to pop the balloons. My son ended up popping the number 3 - the last balloon of all things.

If it were me, I'd do cars or music with your choices. I am just not a huge fan of Elmo nor trains. With cars, you could put little washed matchbox cars on cupcakes or on a cake. Kids could take them as a door-prize. I made my son's construction cake- ground up Oreos for dirt, ground up nutter butters for sand, pretzel sticks for wood/logs. I think cars would be easy-enough to decorate with. But music would be a lot of fun for the guests. You can get a cheapo recorder at the dollar store. Have people bring their musical instruments from home and make a little musical train band.

Google "cars birthday theme for kids" and you may get a lot of Disney Cars, but will get other ideas I'm sure too. I know you'll get a lot of ideas on this website too. Good luck. Have fun. And don't forget to ask your son what he wants.

If you do an Elmo party, go to shutterfly.com--they have a very cute Seasame Street photo book--the whole is about your child and Elmo comes to the door because Seasame Street is missing the first letter of your child's name. My son had an elmo party last year and everyone at the party signed his book! I lucked out because Target had cups, bowls and Elmo stamps in the dollar bin and those were the kids favors. We had it at home, so the kids just played on the swing set (his birthday present). You could get him a goldfish named Dorothy and have that as a centerpiece. I got a super cute Elmo sheet cake from Sweet Imaginations in Burleson(not sure what part of Fort Worth you live in, but it's just south of Fort Worth). I had a life size Elmo and Cookie monster made out of wood(I borrowed from a friend), but if you're crafty, you could leave the faces out and take each kids photo as the character.

If you do trains, maybe look into someone who would come to house and do a train ride. You could try to find conductor hats for the kids a favors.(Oriental Trading might have something like that).

Cars--maybe all the kids could build a small hand held car and then have some type of small track to have races??

My 3 year old is having a construction birthday party next month. I have found several blogs with ideas and decorative stuff on Etsy.

Hope ya'll have a great party!!
