Hi ladies...
I just picked up my daughter from school, and while sitting on a potty (potytraining), i noticed some light brown spots on her scalp... i looked all over her head, and its only on the top part... so i tried to scrape it off, kinda, with my nail, and they started pealing off, in a dandruff flaky like fashion... what is that??? Exima?? dry skin??? we wash her hair twice a week, its down to her waste, so unless she goes to the park and has sand in it, we really try not to wash it every day... i'm gonna call my pediatrician, but just thought i'd ask the 'experts' first... Thanks in advance...

What can I do next?

My friend that went to medical school told me that this sounds just like Eczema. I would talk to a skin doc about it. That way you'd be getting the right medication and not just some med that a drug rep told the pediatrician about.

MOst likely cradle cap without the cradle. Selsun Blue is what my pediatrician recommends...just be super careful to avoid her eyes.

My daughter has the same thing. I freaked when I first saw it and took her in. It is cradle cap. We used Selsun blue until it got better. They also suggested Neutrogena T gel ( i think that was the name of it) It has the most god awful smell but worked after 2 applications. She still has dandruff, but the cradel cap is much better.

My son had a patch of yellowish flaky stuff that I could pick off. First I thought he had oatmeal stuck in his hair. My MIL recommended tea tree oil shampoo b/c yellowish is NOT dandruff. I think that goes for light brown spots not being dandruff too. I also have started switching up his shampoos so that he has this kind this week and that kind that week. After using the tea tree oil kind and switching it up he hasn't had a recurrence of it.

Sounds like cradle cap. There are lots of tricks to fix it, but the easiest for me was a cradle cap shampoo. I always used Gentle Naturals. It' sold at Walmart and Target both. It's cheap and works well. My daughter is three and half and we still get it rather randomly.

Cradle cap is another name for seborrheic dermatitis.
It's common and harmless although the flaking dandruff is a bother.
Any dandruff shampoo will help clear it up.
You don't have to wash her hair every day, but you might want to wash it a bit more often than twice a week.

It sounds like cradle cap...most common in infants but can last longer....my 4 year old still sometimes still gets patches. To remove, apply baby oil to the areas and remove the scales with a fine toothed comb.
