Tangled (The Movie) - What Did You Think?

For those of you with little girls who saw Tangled (I'm thinking ages 4, 5, 6 and 7), what did you think? Was it age appropriate? Were there parts you didn't like? How's the overall message?

Thanks!

We saw it on Starz several months ago, when my boys were 5 and 2.5 They both loved it, as did I. The scary parts were pretty mild compared to a lot of other animated movies. The overall message was good--Rapunzel's captor is shown to be selfish and manipulative; Rapunzel tries her best to be a dutiful "daughter," and is willing to sacrifice for others.

I am very strict about what my kids watch, but had no problems with this one, and was able to give my kids good direction for the troubling idea of baby Rapunzel being kidnapped by the villain. I also don't recall there being any crude humor that left me shaking my head.

I took my kids when they were 3, 5, and 7. They all loved it. I really think it's ridiculous to look JUST at ratings and ban something because of that.

There were a few parts that made me 3 year old take off his 3d glasses, but it's not scary. My kids love it and watch it every so often.

It is just like Rapunzel but with horse humor. We went with my younger daughter and nieces so at the time 10, 9, and 8 and they loved it. I thought it was cute too so no suffering through a movie for mom. :)

Yup, we like it. My daughter saw it when she was 4 and she is scared easily so there were a few parts she had to snuggle close, but really it's not scary. It was cute, I liked it, I think it's fine for all those ages of kids.

My nieces saw it in the theater (they were 3 & 5) and LOVED IT! We bought it for my boys (3 & 5 at the time) and the LOVE IT, too!

Rapunzel tries to love her "mother" and be respectful. She is torn between doing that and following her own dream. She is not a damsel in distress but a very strong woman!

Great movie!

It's the only Disney movie besides My Neighbor, Totoro (not made by Disney, but released by Disney) that I have allowed my children to watch. In general, I think Disney is too scary for young kids, but Tangled doesn't really have scary parts, except the end when the witch dies, but my kids don't get that part since she turns to dust.

i have seen that movie one too many times. My 4 yr old thinks that movie is the greatest movie of all time and will watch it at least 3 times a week.
I like the movie but think some of the scenes are a little umm upsetting for children such as the part where rapunzel is chained up and mother gothel is dragging her around.
IDK but my kid likes it.

We LOVE this movie. My daughter first watched at 3.5 and loved it. She was Rapunzel for Halloween last year and even made us call her Rapunzel for at least a month. It's pretty funny too. My husband and I both enjoy it ourselves. It's my favorite of the princess movies. I highly recommend it.

Hey, my husband was the one who rented it for us...and the one who rented it again a few months later! He thought it was funny! And so did we. My daughter is older than yours (11) but I think it would be OK for your younger ones. Get a copy and watch it by yourself first if you have any doubts at all, or if your younger children are kind of sensitive to images. That's what we do -- we preview a lot of things before my daughter sees them. (Right now she's into the British TV series "Robin Hood" from a few years back but SHE insists we watch them first in case an episode is too violent! She really knows what she does and doesn't want!)

My daughter is soon to be 6. Saw this in the theater when she was 4/5 (can't remember. She LOVES!!!!! this movie. We bought her the DVD and sometimes watch it ALL day. Not exaggerating.

Mother Gothel, the one that raises Rapunzel is sarcastic and a bit mean-spirited/self-centered, but I don't know if that bothers me overall, since she isn't supposed to be a nice character as much as how the voice actress delivered the lines. There are few lines that seem rushed and have always bugged me. (pet peeve.)

The overall message is fine. Love the songs.

My daughter is 3.5 and loves that movie. My son is almost 5 and likes it too. They love Maximus the horse and the chameleon. We didn't think it was scary or inappropriate. They did get confused by the mom/witch character, but overall they loved the music and all the funny parts!

I am an Anti-Disnite and I have a boy who had ZERO interest, but this site says it's OK for kids 5 and over:

Sounds like it might be PG for "scary stuff" like narrow escapes, a stabbing, a fire, etc.

We have seen it and both my big kids girl age 6 and boy age 4 love it. It is a little scary at the end if you have a sensitive child just have them not watch as the old lady gets ugly and falls and disappears. But I highly recommend it. It is one of my favorite movies too.

I was extra sensitive to the betrayal from the mother she knew her whole life because we adopted our son. I prepared myself to reassure him about our family, his history, etc.

Great movie. My 3 1/2 year old loves it. It's COMPLETELY off from the actual fairy tale (then again, all of those Disney movies are), but it's really cute. There were a few themes to the movie. Independence, love, and the traditional good vs evil. I guess I would throw self-discovery in there with the independence. Only "scary" part would be at the end when "Mother Gothel" dies, but as someone else mentioned, she turns to dust. (Her age catches up with her and she basically disintegrates while falling from the tower.)

Overall, really cute movie, and it's more of a throwback to the traditional Disney movies in that it has original songs sung by the cast members. HTH!

I felt that the overall message was that you can be whatever you dream of... and it doesn't have to be to grow up and marry a prince. Also, that you can love someone that isn't doing the right thing for you (the woman who kept her in the tower)... but that could be bad in their later years, because they may feel that you, as a parent, aren't looking out for their best interests. It taught that love means being willing to give up something for someone else to be happy (the prince cutting her hair so that she won't be captive to the witch). It teaches to appreciate everything - the forest, animals, feel of the grass, people, music... I thought it was great!
