As a teacher myself, I can't tell you the number of mugs and teacher ornaments I have gotten over the years.... I appreciate all of them, but it gets, well, old...

I am giving my son's teachers a $5 gift card to Starbucks and one to Target, and a small personalized note pad that says "From the desk of ___". That was my favorite gift ever to receive.

Other great ideas: Gift cards to teacher supply stores, fun pens or note-pads, beaded laynards, picture frames.

A word of caution on anything edible or baked.... Most teachers I know don't eat anything that students bring from home. A few years back at the school I was at during the time a student made brownies for her teachers. We didn't know it, but they were "special brownies". Several of us got sick. After that we started getting e-mails from administration every year to not eat anything that was homemade, as you just never know these days.

I usually send out a letter to all the students in class, asking if other's would like to join with me in getting a group gift card. In the last few years I have had 95% of the class participate. It is nice to give the teacher a gift card with a larger balance, knowing they will be able to get something they really need or want. I am friends with several teacher's and while they all appreciate the thought that went into the mug, candle, bath accessories, ornament, seasonal kitchen towels, chocolate, how much of that does one person really need. So my advice is send out a letter asking for contributions to one group gift, teacher's LOVE these.

We make homemade treat bags - peppermint bark, cookies, candy etc. We give these to room teachers, art, music, gym teachers, principal etc too and then also give the room teachers a small gift card for supplies or a bag of supplies if we know what if needed.

*On the "homemade/edible" goods part......just wanted to add that I know most of the elementary school teachers where my kids go. They know me, I volunteer, help the art teacher every Thursday afternoon etc, they know where I live..........So maybe it's not the best idea if they don't know you.??

This year I'm branching out a little. Usually everyone gets the same thing.

My toddler's teachers are getting antibacterial soap and a fleece blanket. My 5 year old has 2 teachers, plus 2 before and aftercare teachers, so they are all getting antibacterial gel and then 2 teachers are getting gift cards, one is getting that plus a face mask and gloves (we have a joke about her being a germaphobe) the other yarn and a knitting book (she mentioned she has always wanted to learn).

The priniciples, who I do a lot of work with, are getting Yankee candles (I had a get 1 get 1 free coupon!). I still have to figure out what to get the mom who sometimes watches the kids when one of the teachers is out sick.

Whew!

Some things I've given in the past....
supplies for the classroom
books for the classroom
blank note cards (elementary school teachers tend to send out personal notes, and thank you's)
gift cards
a card with a handwritten note of appreciation
an ornament made by my children with her picture
homemade cookies

One kid = NINE gifts YIKES!

That's 3 teachers, 2 aides, and 4 therapists

I bake a lot and that's what I'm known for. I'd probably get dirty looks if I DIDN'T bake them things. I even got a text over vacation asking how to make a couple of things from his teachers from last year.

Luckily my husband works at SC Johnson Wax and they have a company store. Most of their gifts come from there. Granted they aren't super exciting but they really appreciate a nice gift bag of Glade candles, Ziplock containers, Ziplock bags and assorted cleaning suppiles. Stuff that would cost well over $30.00 if they bought it themselves.

My kids' preschool teachers are getting homemade toffee. Target also has these coins that you can assign any monetary value to, so will tie onto the gift bag.
