Hey I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the same virus can have completely different effects on two children?? My 2 year old had a fever and severe vomit for two days and now my 4 yr old has a fever with a really bad cough but no vomit. Do they have the same thing or do we have two different viruses??

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
I'm not a doctor, but my thoughts would be it probably is the same virus. Some children vomit with high fevers and others dont. My children act differently when they get the same illness (ear infections, etc), so that's what I'm guessing is the case for your two little chicklets. Hope they're feeling better soon.

This happened to our family over the winter. Same virus, different symptoms for everyone. It has to do with the level of antiboties your body has. Everyone is different, so your ability to fight a virus or certain symptoms of it may different from each of your children's.

Good luck,
S.

People can show the same symptoms to the same illness but not always is that true. The CDC gava a broad list of symptoms for this new flu strain. Make sure they were masks if they can, to avoid spreading it to others.

Yes, they totally can. My two children routinely get different symptoms from each other, while often the same for them. Meaning, my daughter will maybe feel fine, throw up once and be back to running around while my son will have a sore throat, cough, etc. My son is prone to sinus infections, my daughter is not - so his symptoms are much worse than hers, typically.
Make sure you call your dr. about those sypmtoms though, A., in light of the flu going around - just to be sure.
Have a good week - I'm sure it will turn around!

It could be the same or different. It's hard to tell without a dr. visit but if they are on the mend just let it take it's course. Hopefully they will be on the mend soon. Oh, and IGNORE the previous post about H1N1! Your little ones DO NOT have to wear masks! This is not a time to spread fear. Go to www.mercola.com for info about the "swine flu". Let's all remind each other to be smart and not buy into H1N1 panic.

We had a stomach virus earlier this spring in our house. My son and husband had diarrhea and vomiting and low grade fever. My daughter and I had a low grade fever and diarrhea, but no vomiting.
