Anything you do to lose weight--except for starving yourself, which I don't recommend unless you want your metabolism permanently screwed up--will not work unless you are getting at least 8 solid, uninterrupted hours of sleep each night. This is of course impossible when our babies are that age. It is just a matter of time and you will be able to lose that weight. Give yourself time, and try to reduce your stress level because the amount of bad stress you have is directly connected to how healthy you are feeling. Getting treated by a massage therapist and/or acupuncturist can be really helpful for learning how to relax.

I highly recommend weight watchers. But before that I would make an appointment with your doctor to have your hormones and thyroid checked. Pregnancy can alter both. I too had trouble losing weight once my daughter was born and I was also exercising, and I thought eating well, until I went to weight watchers and learned what good portion control was and that even things like apples count as part of your daily calories. I did lose the extra 35lbs that I needed to get back to pre-pregnancy weight (in 3 months!). I know it can be so frusterating, especially if you have any other mom friends who look great, or had no problem losing the weight! Best of luck and you will lose it!

TESTIMONIALS

The NoN-Diet Weight Loss System in 10 days has allowed me to lose 5 pounds and 20 total inches. I lost 3.5 inches around my waist, two around my bust, and two around my ribs. I have two reasons for my excitement. First, the 5 pounds. But more so is I have for over 7 years tried to break a plateau that I have now broken. The first day I dropped my first two pounds and broke the plateau. I have exercised and been on many different kinds of diets and nothing worked up until the NoN-Diet Weight Loss.
Sheila Oien

The Slendering NoN-Diet System can be summed up by saying, "Its SIMPLE! I ate what I wanted! I ATE LATE and LOST WEIGHT and I FEEL GREAT! Plus, I lost 6 Pounds of
Body-Fat and 8 Pounds of weight in just 10 Days!
Manuel Sequeira

What I enjoyed the most is that I wasn't paying attention to what I was eating and I lost 6 Pounds in 10 days and 3 Pounds were Body-Fat! Plus, I dropped 12 inches off my body. I now feel that if I do the Slendering NoN-Diet System for another 10 days, I will lose another 6 Pounds. This was really easy! I now feel that I am on the road to successful weight-reduction. I have not experienced this
type of easy weight-loss success before. I now plan on telling all my friends about Slendering. Natalie Andre

The Slendering NoN-Diet System allowed me to eat what I wanted, I didn't exercise and I still lost 4 Pounds and 8.5 Inches in just 10 Days. Shawna Teicheira

I beleive if you relax about yourself losing weight in the sense of being comfortable with losing weight and exercise it becomes easier, you dont have to try so hard and you dont think about it as much it just becomes a routine instead of worrying, which I think makes you swell and makes things so much harder,I also would remember you can gain up to 20 pounds every month so much fun for women!!!!
so have fun exercising and dieting finding out all the new stuff can be fun!!!!
love L.!!!!

Are you nursing? I know they say that nursing takes up your calories, and I have no doubt it does, but for me (I nursed both my boys past a year, no formula) it also made me very hungry! I never lost baby weight, and then when I weaned, I gained more weight, since my appetite was not in accord with what my baby was eating (ie, I was still eating like I was nursing, but my body wasn't producing as much milk). If you were nursing up until recently, that can make it hard to lose weight, too. I have a good friend who was nursing and did Weight Watchers for exactly that reason: she wanted to lose weight, but not compromise her milk or her nursing status. Anyway, the Girlfriend's Guide always said remember, it took you 9 months to gain it; expect 9 to lose it! If you were at your pre-baby weight at 4 1/2 months, you'd probably be an anomolie.

Are you nursing? This has two effects on mothers, they either hang on to the weight until weaning, or they lose so much it is hard to keep it on, which was my situation. With the second baby it was similar but not as severe.
Regardless of nursing, make sure you are drinking enough water. Also, some women experience thyroid issues after birth and many women, do not get enough iodine in their diet and that alone can have effect over the thyroid, effecting weight gain and sleep.

I would encourage you to keep up what you are doing and eat lots of raw fruits and vegies. Your body is still recovering from growing and birthing another person. Be patient and enjoy your new bundle of joy! Look fora strollersize exercise program in your area. It is a great way to get in shape and have other supportive mothers around.
Good luck!

K., it took me a good year to feel like I was back in my body. Be patient with yourself, and remember that you have more to do than before you had your baby. I found some success using Weight Watchers online and buying some workout DVDs (since i had no time to go to the gym). You are doing the right things, keep it up!

Hi K.,

I had gestational diabetes (gd) during my pregnancy. I've found that the gd diet has been very effective for getting rid of pregnancy weight. It's pretty simple:

-15g of carbs= 1 carb exchange
-eat 7g of protein with every meal and snack (cheese, nuts, meat, soy, etc.)
-breakfast is critical
-don't skip meals/snacks! It's tempting to skip, but don't this really does work better when you eat. Every 2-4 hrs.
-you may eat protein whenever you are hungry.
-this is NOT a low carb diet.

2 carb exchange for breakfast
2 carb exchange for snack
3-4 carb exchange for lunch
2 carb exchange snack
3-4 carb exchange dinner
2 carb exchange snack

Look for the light breads. Often you can get 2 slices for 1 carb exchange. Snickers, Rolos, Reese's PB cups, cherry cutie pies are all 2 carb exchanges and will work for a snack when you crave sweets or chocolate. Haagen Daaz vanilla bean ice cream is also just 2 carb exchanges. My son is 6 months and I was back to my pre-pg wt. when he was 3 months. Good luck in your efforts! Send me a note if you want any more info on snacks or carb exchanges. I have a huge sweet tooth, so I have many more suggestions.

Are you on the mini-pill by chance, (the one you take to keep nursing) or another oral contraceptive? After I had my son, I went back on the pill (the mini-pill first, and then another one I had never been on before) and could not lose any weight, no matter what I did. I was a good 40 lbs. overweight until I went off the pill to get pregnant with my daughter. I then lost about 30 lbs. in a relatively short amount of time. I think it was the kind of synthetic progesterone that was the issue. After my daughter was born, I used another type of pill, (she is 21 months old now) and I weigh less than I did before I got pregnant for the first time. Just a thought!

are you breastfeeding? it should naturally come off in time. remember it took 9 months to put it on, it will take that long or longer to get it off. nature makes it that way - nature makes us to be "plump" to support a breastfeeding, hungry baby for the first year (or longer!) so dont stress about it. it will come off, it will just take time. dont stress over it - that will cause your body to hold onto stuff. :D
just keep eating healthy and drinking lots of water. eat at appropriate times, not in front of the tv.. reduce meat, cheese intakes.. increase vegetables. the more color the better!
:D if you are breastfeeding, for example, i nursed my son until he self weaned at 19 months. i lost weight right away, then some more around a year, then more around 14 months, to total loss of 5 lbs MORE than i gained by the time he weaned! :D

anyway, good luck. sorry if you are formula feeding, i dont have much insight there on what formula moms do. but just relax. again, it took 9 months, its gonna take at least that long to get it off!

To increase your metabolism you need to increase you overall food intake but make it healther foods. You should also aim for 5 small meals a day and two healthy snacks. this will help stop over eating and help you get a variety of types of foods.
You can go to Mypyramid.gov and on the right side of the screen there are different tabs that you can use to imput your food intakes and wieght goals. Then it will tell you how much of each food group you are getting and what you aren't. It is really eye opening b/c i thought that i ate realy health but after imputting just one day i found that i am missing most of my nutrients and vitamins.

Good luck

Your baby is still pretty young; it took me 9 months to lose it with my first and a couple of years with my second because I nursed him for 14 months. Are you nursing? Although it burns calories I didn't lose the weight until I quit nursing. The type of exercise you are doing can also make a difference. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism and interval training will help burn fat. You could talk to a personal trainer if you go to a gym or club. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor about it, but you probably just need more time. Best wishes.
