I have heard positive things about Weight Watchers, but I'm not sure about joining. I need to lose about 60lbs, and I haven't had a lot of luck on my own.
Can anyone give me any feedback on their experiences with Weight Watchers? Can you just get the books and do it yourself? Do the meetings help that much? Are they embarassing?
I live in North Lakeland.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi A.,
My mother-in-law started weight watchers over a month ago, and it has been a great success for her. She is just like you has tried many different things on her own, and it didn't work for her either. She walks 3 miles everday, sticks to her point system and goes to the meeting every week. She said she would have never followed through with it if she did not go to the mettings. Everyone at the meetings are there for the same thing, and have things in common. Together they can help be positive, and halp you to keep moving forward. I would think that going to the meetings would be best. Maybe you can get to know someone there, and you can do it together to keep one another motivated. I wish you the best of luck, and keep in mind that you can do this!!!

my mom has been using weight watchers and she loves it! She has lost tons of weight. And it wasn't hard. She says the meetings are very motivational. She didn't seem to think it was embarassing. Most importantly it worked.

I am currently doing WW and have been since November. I've lost close to 10 pounds and have about 10 to go. It is a great plan, but for me what makes it work is the accountability factor. I started going with my neighbor, and then she quit, and it was much harder to stay with it. I've picked it back up again, but it really helps if you feel accountable to someone else. So, with that said, I would recommend attending the meetings and getting to know people there that can help hold you accountable. The weigh-in isn't at all embarrassing, and the people that work there are so supportive! Good luck to you!

BTW...don't know where you live, but if you are in the Tuscawilla area, I'd love to go with you!

I have been a member of Weight Watchers since last November and it definately works... as long as you follow the plan. It is really hard to get the information and do it on your own. It is more than just a diet is a program that helps you recognize your bad behavior (sounds like we are talking about our kids, heehee) and change that behavior. That is why the meetings are so important, you learn from each other. It is not embarrasing to be there, just knowing there is a room full of people that have gone through and are going through all of the same struggles you are really helps. I always leave the meetings motivated and ready to have a great week. The only negative I can find is the money! You have to pay for it but I find that to be yet another motivator. I found a small meeting in the city I work in and go after work. I also have a couple of friends that are doing it too and that makes it easier when we have get togethers, I can do WW food and not get "the looks" :). Good Luck with your weight loss I hope this helps a little.

Hi A.,

I never did Weight Watchers, but I did Jenny Craig and lost 45 pounds before I got pregnant. I have heard good things about weight watchers though, I just preferred the one on one treatment of the Jenny Craig system. Good luck!

I had great result once before but gained my weight back.. I know of someone that went online and did weight watchers and have great results. You just have to pay ahead but it gives you tips and tracker. The people at the meetings never embarras you at all. They only talk about postive things unless you want to talk about something else.

I am a complete believer in weight watchers. After the birth of my two daughters I did weight watchers. I lost more than 50 pounds with my first and then I lost the the 45pounds I gained during my second pregnancy in about 3 months after birth.

I am a small woman 4'11' and I am the skinniest I have ever been. I weigh about 10 pounds lighter now after two kids then when I got married.

The key is you have to keep it up. I still live by the weight watcher's guide. I do not go to meeting however, but I have friends who did and they were very succeessful.

I also prefer weight watchers b/c you can eat normal food. I go out to eat at least twice a week and I have still been able to maintain my weight.

I hope this was helpful.

Jenn

I did it a few years back and lost weight.
I think the meetings are important...
maybe you can go to a few meetings in a row and then check out online groups too for support and then go to meetings here and there? but I would definitely say go to actual meetings to start. They are NOT embarrassing at all! they make you feel good & realize that you CAN do it :)

Hi A.! I was a member of Weight Watchers about 4 years ago through the school that I taught at. I've heard there are some new tools since then but I have to say that I really enjoyed the program. I highly suggest the meetings b/c you hear about things that worked for some people and what struggles other people are having as well. It also helped keep me motivated b/c each week was a weigh in so I wanted to do well. They also will give you great recipes and sell weight watcher products for a very reasonable price at the meetings. The weigh in is not as embarrassing as it sounds. It is to keep a record of your weight loss to help see what is and/or is not working for you. The point system I personally loved b/c you could still eat pretty much anything without feeling guilty. The only negative thing I would have to say about it is I got really used to the foods that were lower points when I was hungry and became tired of those foods once I lost the weight. I hope this helps. I think it is definitely worth a try! Good Luck!!

It is a great program. You can just use the books at home but you will do better if you go weekly and weigh in. My advice would be if you feel uncomfortable at a meeting try a different day and time it is the instructor that you need to feel comfortable with their style. I lost every last pound of the 35 I gained during my pregnancy in about 8 or 9 months. My sister did it many years ago and lost 50lbs and has kept it off as a lifetime member. I also used it years ago and lost about 40lbs and have kept it mostly off. It helps you maintain and understand healthier eating for a lifetime even at fast food joints. GOOD LUCK! Give it a try.

I had 2 babies back to back, they are just about to turn 2 and 1. I put on 80 pounds. I started ww in October and so far have lost 30 pounds. The thing is you must weigh in every week and stay for the meetings, it seems to make a big difference in your efforts. Good luck.

I LOVE weight watchers and am currently back on the program to lose the rest of the weight from my 2nd child (who is now TWO). I've been doing weight watchers on and off for almost 6 years (before I got preggo the first time I lost almost 40 lbs, then after baby #1, and now after baby #2), and I'm a lifetime member (which means I've reached goal and maintained for 6 weeks after). The plan works because it's not a "quick fix", it is more a "way of life", and teaches you that really, portion control is what is most important!

I do believe that in order for it to really work, you need to go to meetings, pay the $$, and step on the scale. At least to me, if I'm accountable every week to the scale I'll do it. Especially if I'm paying the money (I would feel bad messing up!). The meetings are very helpful. I always get great ideas, and the support is invaluable!

I go to meetings in East Orlando (not sure where you live)... but if you live out that way the meeting on Tuesdays at 4:30pm are great.

GOOD LUCK, you can do it!!!!

I lost 40lbs on Weight Watchers prior to my pregnancy and will swear by it for the rest of my life. I loved it so much I encouraged 6 friends and family members to join. One of my friends had just had her second son (17 months after her first) and was trying to lose the baby fat from both kids. She too was lactating and went from a 14 to a 4 in 8 months!!!! She has kept the weight off ever since!
Some people complain about recording what you eat and the whole point value system, but I loved it, because you learn what foods are worth fast and can then make an educated decision as to whether it is worth eating or not.
You have more than enough to eat on the program, so you are not starving and you learn wonderful recipe's and snack alternatives at the meetings and in the literature they offer you. I loved it and am starting back myself.

Hi A.,

I have just recently joined WW and I absoutly LOVE IT!! the meetings are fun and you get alot of good ideas on healty snacking and eating correctly. The food is great, they are tasty and the desserts are truly amazing. You should attend meetings regularly its helps to know that your not the only one out there that has these issues. I also would like to loose 60 lbs and I am down 10 already (5 weeks in WW). Let me know where you live maybe if you live close you can come to where I go for my meetings! let me know and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

A.,
I have done weight watchers before, online and it did work but I found that I was starving! I have since found a similar program that I like much better that really teaches you what foods to eat and its long term as it divides up the meals into % of proteins, carb, etc so that when you have lost your weight you can maintain. Thats one thing that weightwatchers lacked in my use of it. I really didn't learn how to eat anything unless I could count the points. This new program I can just read the label and input the % and really see a balance in my meals thus keeping off my 12 pounds! :) Plus its cheaper then weightwatchers... only $6 a month..
email me and I can give you more details.

Hi there.
I've been on WW before and I can say that it works as long as you stick to the plan. If you have strong willpower, you should be able to do it yourself with the books, but I personally liked the meetings because it helps hold you accountable. It's not embarrasing at all, the only person that can see your weight is the person that is behind the counter. It's not an open area.
If you are ready for it, I say go for it. Losing weight is difficult, and WW is a great tool for helping you manage your food as well as get the support you need. :)

WW is a very good program. Once you learn the program and if you are diciplined you can do it on your own. But the meetings are very helpful and give great recipe ideas.

My best friend joined a few years ago and she says the meetings help a lot. She says the secret to losing weight are the meetings. I'm planning on having my daughter join. I just came from the doctor's office and I got her cleared to start. Can't wait to see what those meetings are all about. If I like it I may join my daughter.

I am a lifetime member of weight wathchers, I joined about 4 years ago and I recently have gotten back in it after having a baby. My experiance with WW has been excelent both times! The first time I lost 35 lbs and so far I have lost 17 1/2 lbs in 8 weeeks. I find the meetings very helpful, and no they are not embarrassing at all. The meetings help me stay motivated through the week, and also get VERY helpful tips from other women (there are not very men I think 1 in my meetings) I am a HUGE fan of weight watchers and I tell everyone I know about them. So I highly recomend it....Good Luck!
