Hi,

I want/need to find a better paying job....

I get $ 13 an hour and work my b*** off....I'm so stressed out I want OUT !!!!!!!

I want to go back to college to get a different degree but I don't know what.....

I loved working in the office for the Army.....so an office job would be nice....

What do you work as and what's your hourly rate ???

Thanks for your advice !!!!!

Edited to say: You misunderstood....I don't want to give up my job NOW....I want to go back to college while still working.....

I do have an associates degree in early childhood education....not quite a bachelors, but it probably would count as one (it is a German 3 year degree with 1 year of internship)....

So I won't quit now....I couldn't afford going to school and not working....I have 2 kids to support :)

You should look into getting certified as a BCBA (to work with children with autism). UNT offers the program.

look into gerontology (the study of aging) with the population soon to be mostly seniors, you cant beat the field!! I was a medical social worker specializing in alzheimers and other dementias. if you like paperwork, you could be a director or administrator. 13 years ago when i quit i was making 20 an hour. good luck!

Have you thought about doing admin for a local mercenary company? (Yeah, yeah yeah, private security is the PC term).

I loved being in the field in the military, so I'm working at doing something similar (archeology and photography/art... also picking up my RN -ha that makes it sound easier than it is-... because I rather despise being 2 days out from medical care and needing stitches or antibiotics and not having them on hand, and most out there digs need a nurse on staff).

Since you liked doing military admin... why not continue that in the private sector?

I haven't worked in 7 years as I am a SAHM now, BUT when I did work, I was a paralegal. I have both an associates in legal studies and a bachelor's degree in legal administration. My starting salary as a paralegal was $45k with full benefits and two weeks vacation. It is a very interesting field and you can work in government (I also worked for the courts and loved it); corporations, hospitals, law firms, private attorneys, just about anywhere that has a legal department. You can work in different practice area of law too, so it never gets boring. Although you will never make as much as most attorneys, it can pay well and it is a field that is continually growing as our government grows. There is NEVER enough social justice in this country....NEVER enough lawyers either; therefore, never enough legal people:) Look into it since you have already worked for the government:)

I have a bachelors degree and I'm planning to go back next year for my masters. every job I find asks for a masters or a minimum 2 years experience which I don't have since I've been raising my family for the past 9 years.
I am a little bit discouraged because I need to find a job first so I can afford my masters. I would love to go into business/marketing/accounting I don't like sales but I'm very creative so that's the field I'd like to go into.
I know it's very stressful to make a career change, you are always wondering if it's too risky, or if you're doing it too late.
I'd say if you like an office job, choose something like accounting/ graphic design/ business admin and such. it pays much better.
When I go back to work next year (I'm homeschooling right now) I'm sure I will only find something in the $9-$12 (office assistant) per hour since I have no experience but I'm hopeful that some day I can earn more...sigh

I'm an Independent Distributor (my own business) for a Natural Nutrition Company. I work from home, educate people on health and there is no set income. I am building my business slowly as I don't work very hard at it, but it is still growing. This type of thing can easily be done while working another job, and when your income is high enough, you just quit the other job.

I have been a SAHM for 2.5 years and plan to continue that until my son is school age. But, I have a BA in Political Science and Pre-Law. I worked for 6 years in residential mortgage banking. I worked on the front end, selling, originating home mortgages and land loans and counseling people on personal credit and finance. I worked on the back end, underwriting, closing, and auditing home loans.

It's a pretty easy field to get into and has extreme money making potential. The atmosphere totally depends on whether you work for a large cooperate style bank vs a small town family owned bank. Both have their positives, but I prefer the latter. Though the training and experience at the larger places cannot be taken for granted!

I fell into this career, but have always had a passion for real estate and finance, so it fits me to a tee. It's a very detail oriented kind of job and if you're a people person and very task oriented it could fit well. The schedule can be great (again with a small bank) or grueling (larger bank).

No day is ever the same because no customer or situation is ever the same. I was fortunate enough to always work within a base salary and bonus structure and the added bonus of earned commission, but some of these positions are commission only, which is rough! It goes hand in hand with real estate. Compared to lots of other jobs, is probably pretty family friendly depending on age of children, etc.

Good for you for wanting to try something new! I wish you luck!

I'm an apartment manager for a government subsidized complex. I have loads of paperwork daily... time flies in my office and I am never finished or caught up even.... it's crazy. I have a decent monthly salary and a free 3 bd apartment with utilities paid. It's not the greatest career choice but I am proud to provide housing for people who would otherwise be homeless. Knowing and learning the ins and outs of the qualifiying process for government standards is very interesting stuff.
You can always buy a home and rent it out and live at your complex while someone else pays your mortgage.

Now is a hard time to find a different job because of the economy.
* The best advice I can give for now is to keep your job while you look for something better. Then make sure the job offer is solid before giving your notice.
A lot of people are out of work and applying for the same job.
* I say keep your job for now and plan for a change in the immediate future.
As for as going back to college, my question is do you currently have a Bachelors degree? If so, I wouldn't necessarily go back to school for another or different degree. If you didn't finish college then yes you can go back to finish and get your degree, while working if you can. Keeping a job is a priority if you are no longer living with parents. Prospective employers like people who are currently employed rather than unemployed (if you can at help it . Obviously it is hard in these times. Hiring managers have the outlook that employed people must be more valuable than unemployed people. Again this is more the case during regular times as so many people are currently out of work.)
* Research the most needed careers. A lot of times it is in the health industry.
* For now stretch your dollar, making every cent count and no neeless spending! No extraneous spending like on clothes, etc.

I am a SAHM and a WAHM. People send me their articles, and I edit them and send them back. each article gets you $30, and if you do 220 small articles, they will pay you up tp $200-$500. This might be a perfect job for you.
