Hi. Does anyone have a prenatal vitamin that they love/doesn't make them feel sick? And has anyone done any research on taking a flax seed oil supplement(for the omega-3 fatty acids)during pregnancy? Thanks so much!

I really like Primacare one. It made me more nauseous for a short amount of time, so my doc wrote me a prescription for another one (I can't remember the name of it though) that she said she usually recommended to those that got really sick. It made all the difference in the world and then when I started feeling better I switched back.

With my first pregnancy the doc had me on flinstone vitamins cause I was so sick :) This time I have tried a few but really like the precare premier vitamins that came in my welcome bag from the doctor. I have still been sick with this one just not as bad, and they have B6 in them that has helped with my morning sickness, a stoll softener, and extra calcium and my doc just gives me more of the samples each time I go see her. They are also not as huge which I like as well. I take them along with the expecta DHA vitamins which are real inexpensive at walmart. I also take mine 30 - 45 minutes after dinner and then 30 - 45 minutes later I eat 2 pieces of peanut butter toast. Eating that protien and having the B6 before bed has actually helped me not feel AS sick in the AM since thats when my sugar is the lowest.
I have also used the flax seed before. I just sprinkled it in my oatmeal or bleaned up a little in my smoothies. Didnt really taste any different at all to me. Good luck! :)

I take Cal-nate (prescription) and have had no side effects. But, I didn't have morning sickness either. Try it out and see if it will help you!

Most of the vitamins made me feel sick - I could taste them all day! However, I really liked the Centogen Ultra (prescription only). It is a capsule. Good luck!

I found a liquid supplement to work the best. My friends kids are so healthy (they are 6 and 9 now) and they believe it's because of the vitamins she used during pregnancy.

When I was pregnant, I just took a generic prenatal vitamin and an extra Folic Acid supplement. My doctor said that they are all pretty much the same, so it wasn't necessary to take the prescription. I didn't have any morning sickness or anything, so the vitamins didn't bother me at all. Good luck and congratulations.

Hi A.

What a great question! And it was so weird because I had just had this conversation with one of my friends earlier in the week about the vitamins and the Omega 3. She is due in the summer and we were discussing getting sick. We both use the same brand of vitamins, hers are the prenatal and mine the regular women's, but she was commenting on how with these she doesn't get sick like she had in a previous pregnancy with all the prescrip. vitamins she searched through before. And this company actually has a 90-day money back guarantee policy (even on the empty bottle) so it really made a lot of sense to try it out because even if she hadn't liked them she could've gotten her money back.
My e-mail is ____@____.com if you would like any more info.

I wish you all the best.
Have a great one!

OH MY GOODNESS! Having 2 babies in 2 years, I am the queen of pre-natals. I tried eveyone the Dr. gave me and totally puked. But the company I do marketing for had some so I tried them. They coat them in vanilla so the smell doesn't trigger gag reflex. Also the lady in Idaho who had the septuplets (7 babies) took these prenatals vitamins during her pregnacy so I figured if they worked for her, they would work for my one!! Anyway, the company is Melaleuca, and they also have a Prenatal Omega-3 supplement unlike any other one on the market. Here is the link for the info. http://www.melaleuca.com/ps/pdf_us/0702_PreOmega3.pdf
If you would like to try them, shoot me an e-mail ____@____.com and I can show you how to get them, you can't just order them online, you have to have a marketing executive set up you account so you can have them shipped right to you. :)
CONGRATS!!!

Lots of things made me sick during my pregnancy in the beginning, but the vitamins never seemed to bother me. I know this sounds so cheap & useless, but I took some that I got at at the grocery store called Spring Valley? I grabbed them and took them prior to my first appt and then when they did blood tests, everything showed that the vitamin was doing the trick & I didn't need to take any extras or prescription strength to have the levels of vitamins & iron I needed. So I continued them & still take them now while I'm breastfeeding.

I puked my guts up with both kids (lost 15 lbs to begin with each time) and most vitamins made it much worse. Except the wal-mart brand (one source~I think). You are still recommended to take two a day, but they are the SMALLEST pills for prenatal that I have ever run across and taking them in two doses really made a huge difference.
Flax Seed Oil made me sicker, but buy the actual seeds and put them on your food. I honestly put them on most everything except breakfast foods. They don't really have any flavor, just add a little crunch, like sesame seeds.

Yes. This Standard Process Tuna Omega-3 Oil is wonderful during pregancy. I haven't taken it with my first, for I only researched it after I had my son, but I will definately take it when I get pregnant again.

As for prenatal vitimins, I can't remember what I took, it was a pink and blue capsule (prescription) and they didn't make me too sick (the Dr. should know which one this is). Taking the right amount of folic acid is VERY important.

Red rasberry leaf is great too, and marshmallow root is supposed to really boost your milk supply.

Just be careful b/c a lot of supplements can be very harmful/fatal to the baby, esp. rosemary, black licorish...

As for regular multivitamins, my Dr. told me that the Woman's One A Day, and Flinestones are two of the best!

I am 23 weeks pregnant with my third child and I am also a pharmacist. I take the regular prenatal vitamins from Costco along with the Fish Oil capsules. I also take an additional Calcium tablet and docusate (stool softener). I know this sounds like alot but the cost is very reasonable and you get the same benefit as all the prescription brands. The main difference between over-the-counter prenatals and prescription brands is the amount of folic acid. Most OTC brands have 0.8 mg and Rx brands have 1 mg. Not a real big difference! You can also buy a folic acid tablet OTC that has 0.4 mg to make up the difference.

FYI--Folic acid is mainly important in the first trimester when the babies neural system is developing, after the first trimester it really doesn't make a big difference.

When I was in the first trimester I usually took my vitamins in the evenings when the nausea was the least.

A.,

When I was prego I tried the vitamins the Dr. gave as free samples, but they all made me feel sick. I just got store brand prenatal vitamins from Wal-Mart, Target, or Walgrees. They are great, they don't have the nasty vitaminy taste either.

Good Luck and Congrats.

when i was pregnant i went to a midwife instead of an ob/gyn. i took alfalfa to prevent the swelling, and red raspberry which is suuposed to strengthen the birth canal. also, i found that the liquid prenatal were easier for me to keep down than the ones in pill form. oh, and once i got to about 36-38 weeks, i started taking a supplement called dr. christophers. hope this helps.

Promise Stages:

This has different ingredients for each stage of your pregnancy. It doesn't have a weird smell. It doesn't have a taste since they are capsules. I am also taking their Omega supplement now that I am in my 3rd trimester.

Good luck!
