What to Do with My Cat?

We have a cat that we adopted (along with his mommy) who is about a year old. He didn't start going potty in naughty places until my husband decided to buy this cheap cat litter. I've since changed back to the cat litter we originally had and it seems to have done the trick. I think some cats are just particular about the litter. Another thing though...his mommy went outside and hasn't come back (it's been 5 days now) and I'm starting to think he didn't like sharing his litter box either.

it's probably more habit now than anything. i would get this spray at walmart called "stay-off pet training spray" or something, it's made by hartz. it has a sharp scent that isn't too pleasant but i bet if you deter her from going in the spots she has been, she'll make it back to the litter box. we just had a move and one of mine decided to poop in the livingroom four nights in a row. i just sprayed it where he had pooped and now he's back to going in the litter box like always. good luck!

I had a rescue cat that used to uriante innapropriately. We tried the litter changes IE: we had 5 liter boxes with 5 differrent litters...pine, clumping, crystals, recycled newspaper(yesterdays news) and just absorbent pads. This continued until we put her on amitriptalyne...an antidepresant. My how things changed. Our cat whom had been allof was now responsive to us, she no longer fought with our other cat and didn't need only 2 litter boxes. She even started using the self cleaning box. I was actually sorry I held off on medicating her so long, but she was an older cat and we had done so much bloodwork, urinalysis and ultrasounds. Her medications were $7 dollars monthly as this was a medication that had been around a long time. Hopefully your vet can give you a more educated response, but worth asking about. Good Luck!

My cat was doing the exact same thing and was also diagnosed with repeated urinary tract infections...poor guy. We put him on a special food recommended by our vet (Science Diet) that seemed to help for awhile. It turned out that he had some sort of chronic kidney problem, and eventually we had to put him to sleep last year because he was losing weight, not eating, and was in a lot of pain. I hope your cat doesn't have the same problems, but I would ask your vet to see if he/she has any recommendations. Good luck!

I had luck using a special cat litter called "cat attract" and a pheremone (sp?) plug-in. You can get both at PetSmart. The plug-ins worked wonders for my cat. I put the plug-in in the room where he was peeing at and then added the cat-attract to the litter box and he started doing better day by day. It took about 2 weeks, but now everything is perfect. Don't give up on your kitty. If you decide though, that you do not want to keep him please send me a private message and I will give you some info on where to take her.
