Miralax and Constipation

Since we started school we have been battling with constipation with our 5 year old. I think it is the transition from "free range" drinking to structure. I have met with the dr countless times and first we tried diet changes with no luck, now we are on miralax. I just wonder if anyone has used this long term with their child and has an opinion. I tried taking her off it over the Christmas break and over spring break but the constipation comes back horribly. I was wondering if putting her on a drinking schedule may help? I could have...

Miralax for Toddler

My son has been battling constipation as we've gotten full into potty training. I know this can be a normal thing but we've had a couple of bouts here lately that have been really tough. So his pediatrician finally convinced me to buy Miralax today. I have been really reluctant to give him anything "unnatural," preferring to use prunes and that kind of thing, but she explained that after an episode or 2 of constipation the end of the bowels can actually stretch out a little, making the next poop that forms bigger than normal, and it...

Miralax for My 23 Month Old?

My son who will be 2 friday has had belly pain for several weeks. The dr ran some tests they all came back normal. The x-ray showed some mild "back up" in the bowels which I thought was odd since he pooped 4 times before the xray that morning. The biggest problem is he poops 4+ times a day and it ranges from hard balls (usually those are about every other day) to peanut butter texture to watery with some chunks in it. Most of the time its the PB texture which it sticky and the smell will almost burn my eyes. The dr suggest last...

14 Month Old Is Constipated

Our 14 month old son is a very picky eater and he has been constiptated on and off since he stopped drinking formula(12 months.)He can become quite miserable when he hasn't had a bowel movement. We try to give him as many fiberous foods as we can- but he still is having this problem. Our doctors' office just recommmended apple juice- which he doesn't like. Our babysitter suggested we try putting mineral in his milk or water. Has anyone ever heard of this? Does anyone have any other suggestions for a constipated toddler who is a very picky...

Fun with Pooping and Prune Juice

My one year old son has had a hard time pooping lately. It is awful to watch, he squats and then screams like it REALLY hurts to go and his poop is really hard. We just finished formula a few weeks ago and he is now on whole milk. He gets a lot of fruit and meat and wheat bread in his diet, but I'm wondering if he needs more fiber? We gave him a few ounces of prune juice this morning to see if that helps, but I'm not sure how much and how often to give it to him. I'm desperate to relieve the poop pains -- I really think it hurts when...

Karo Syrup in Every Bottle???

My oldest step-daughter is a 20 year old single mother. She just recently moved back in with us. The baby just turned 3 months old. The first time she left us alone with the baby she showed me how to make her bottle. She told me to put Karo syrup in it. I asked why and she told me it helps her with her bowel movements. I never had a child of my own, but I have babysat children & babies and I have lots of friends with kids of their own. It stills seems odd to me to put Karo in every single bottle. Am I wrong about this? Should I find a way...
