Seeking Free Baby Gear

Hi, I'm trying to be crazy-frugal in shopping for baby gear, because the less I spend on baby stuff we need, the fewer extra hours my husband has to work to allow me to stay home. Does anyone have the following items they would like to get rid of, or know where I can get them for free? I live west of Whitmore Lake and could travel up to 10 miles to pick an item up or meet you in Ann Arbor during the week if you have something to give away. Thanks so much! -diaper bag -baby swing -wet bag/cloth diapers/pail liners/etc. -contoured...

Suggestions for Toddler Backpack W/ Harness

Hello Mamas! I have a 20 month old son who loves to run around everywhere. I tend to keep him in the grocery cart or stroller when we run errands, but I would like to let him out/down at times, especially when it's just a quick trip in and out. He is great at holding hands when we walk around outside in our neighborhood. He does fairly well in stores as long as we are moving, but if we have to stop for anything, i.e. stand in thee check-out line, etc. he wants to go see and touch everything. My husband and I would like to get him a backpack...

Hiking with a Toddler

I want to start going on some easy hikes with my 15 month old this summer (we live near Fort Collins), and I was wondering what recommendations you all had for natural, scenic, and fairly easy hiking trails. Additionally, do you have any good recommendations for a front or back carrier (other than a sling) that is good to use for hiking for when he wants to be carried? Also, what do you have to say about going camping with young ones in tow? Should we wait until next year for that? Thanks in advance moms!

I am due with my 2nd in a couple of weeks and this baby decided not to cooperate at the ultrasound, so I have no idea if it is a boy or a girl. Being the planner that I am this is driving me NUTS!!! I have picked up some gender neutral stuff but am having issues when it comes to bedding. School Lunch Ideas - Not Sandwiches

Hi, I need lunch ideas. What do you send for your child? My child is a little picky in that he doesn't like sandwiches, yogurt, or soup - the easy choices. What do you send? I do have a small insulated thermos that I sometimes use for ravioli. So ideas of warm foods is also fine. Thanks!

5 Month Old Getting Too Big for Her Bath Tub Laying Down. Other Alternatives?

Hi everyone, I have a 5 month old daughter who we bathe in the tub using her little plasitc Safety 1st bath tub. We lay her down using the little cot that came with it. Once in, she usually pushes her self all the way to the end of her little tub until the cot can't go any further. Her little head is practically pushed off the cot and just about touching the end of her little tub. We are starting to notice that she gets annoyed by this. When we wash her back, we usually sit her up and as soon as we do that, she starts splashing the...

What Age to Give up the Stroller?

So, I was reading the last question about strapping your child into the stroller or supermarket cart and it seemed that people were talking about 4 and 5 year olds strapping themselves into the stroller. The last time I used my stroller, my son was probably 16 months old. The last time I took it to the airport (the most walking we do at a quick pace) he was 18 months and we didn't use it. How long did you use a stroller?

Old Toys and Lead Contamination

My mother in law has saved all of my husband's old toys from 40 years ago and wants to pull them out for my 20 month old to play with them. He still occassionally puts toys in his mouth too. Most recently, she's suggested old match box and hot wheels cars. How can I learn more about whether these old tosy may contain lead based paint? I'm trying to be cautious so that I gather the info without hurting her feelings needlessly.
