At Wits End with Diaper Rash

My son has had a bad diaper rash off and on for over a month to the point that his but gets all red and almost raw. At times you would think we were killing him to change his diaper. We are hoping we can get him potty trained but he shows no interest even though we tell him his bottom will stop hurting. He continues to tell us after the fact. He has also been constipated for at least a month and we have been giving him Miralax and trying to get the right dose down. We have not changed his eating habits at all, but noticed this started when...

Withholding Stool Even Though He Is on Miralax

I am wondering Why my child is still trying to withold stool even though he is on a high level of Miralax. He has about three tablespoons a day. The goal was to get him pooping so much that he did not have time to wothold. Even though he is on all of the lax he still does the dance. I am soooooooo frustrated and want to help him so much. He will be three next month. The funny thing is that I tried potty training last Nov. in which we stoped because he had H1N1. He was also getting one flu after another at school. During that time he...

5 Year Old Cronic Constipation

My 5 year old daughter has had constipation since she was born. She would go for 2 weeks without having a bowel movement. At times, she has been so constipated that she has had fevers. When she does go it "hurts" her. We have asked the doctor and they said that it was her formula (when she was an infant) and the lack of fiber, fruits and veggies now that she is older. Laxatives have been recommended. I was told the same thing by two different PCPs. Yesterday, I gave her a dose of laxative and today I gave her another dose. She has not...

Use of Miralax

Hi, My 2 1/2 year old has been having problems with bowel movements. We finally got him regular for almost 1 month and the GI dr found out he was also anemic, so he's been on iron for almost one month. I thought being on the iron would make his constipation worse, but he was doing so well, thought too well that I lowered the dose of his miralax I gave him only to the 1/2 mark of the cap because his poop was so watery and Friday he didn't poop and went back to his Arching of his back. The dr wants me back in a few weeks for his Iron...

Probiotics vs Miralax

I know I've posted on this issue before, but here it goes again! My 3 year old deals with chronic constipation. She is normally a good eater and loves fruits and vegetables. She also drinks water regularly through out the day, I'd say about 4 8oz glasses per day. Sometimes she goes up to 4 days with out having a bowel movement. When she goes that long she gets really sick. She won't eat or hardly drink anything, her belly gets round and hard and she's miserable. Her bowels push on her bladder and she loses the sensation that she needs to...

Miralax for Toddler

My son has been battling constipation as we've gotten full into potty training. I know this can be a normal thing but we've had a couple of bouts here lately that have been really tough. So his pediatrician finally convinced me to buy Miralax today. I have been really reluctant to give him anything "unnatural," preferring to use prunes and that kind of thing, but she explained that after an episode or 2 of constipation the end of the bowels can actually stretch out a little, making the next poop that forms bigger than normal, and it...

My 5 Year Old Son Still Refuses to Poop on Potty!

Hi everyone! Ok, I have a very smart 5 year old son who has been "potty" trained since he was 2 1/2. I still can not get him to use the potty to poop. I was told by his doctor to ignore it and let him poop when and where he wants, and that he will eventually start going on the potty. I have kept pullups on the back of the toilet and whenever he needs to go, he will put one on himself, then come get me when he is done. We have talked to him about using the potty, but he tells us, "I'll poop in the potty when I turn 5." O.k, well so his...

Getting 3 1/2 YO off the Nap and Night Time Pull-ups

Hi Moms. I need your advice! We have been potty training for about 6 months with my DD. She is at the point where she really does not have anymore accidents with #1 (pee). She asks to go to the bathroom or we take her there if it has been awhile since she has gone. The problem is, we have used a Pull-up during naptimes and overnight. After naptime, or in the morning, her Pull-Up is usually pretty soaked. She does not get many liquids before sleeping time (only during lunch and at dinnertime). I have attempted to let her try napping...
