Smelly Washing Machine

Hello! My washing machine smells musty (and maybe moldy!). It is a top-loading washing machine. My family is allergic to laundry detergent, so I only use baking soda and vinegar in it, unless it is a particularly smelly load, in which case I also use Dawn dish soap. Can anyone tell me how to get the smell out? Or how it was caused in the first place? (Did those missing sock fairies play a mean trick on me?) Thanks for your help!

To Rent or Buy a Carpet Cleaner?

I've been thinking about either buying a carpet cleaner or renting one for a very long time now. I live in an apartment and well it's covered with stains and I've tried to use other means to get them out. Just not working very well. I would love to buy one so that way if/when we do move I have it for our next place. I'm not sure which one is best to buy. I've been to Target and saw what they have as well as Wal-Mart. I've even seen them for rent at the grocery stores. So what do you guys think and what would you recommend? Thank you in...

Potty Target for Boys to Pee On?

My 6 year old son always seems to end up making a bit of a mess when he pees. He goes standing up. (My 3 year old still sits down and that works fine). I tell him to aim and wipe up any on the potty (or the floor) but of course, that only works so well. It seems like I once heard about some sort of product you can put in the toilet to be a "target" for them to "shoot" at. I don't quite understand how it would not get in the way or go down when you flush. Is there such a thing? Any other ideas for improving their aim? I'm hoping I...

Has Anyone Tried Aldi?

Even though there is a Target and Rainbow just 2 miles from our house, we are going to try Aldi tomorrow, which is a bit further away but cheaper, from what I've heard. I know they carry mostly their own brand, so I'd be curious to know what people think of shopping there. Can you find most of your basic groceries and paper goods there? How is their food taste-wise? (I've even thought about trying powdered milk! I've heard it's better than it used to be.) We'll be trying out the store in Minnetonka.

Toys in Your Living Room?

People with small children and small houses: do you allow toys in your living room? I have 2 preschoolers and a 2 bedroom apartment. My youngest is moving into a big bed now which means even less space to play in their room. I suggested to my husband that we get some sort of toy shelf for the living room and he was adamently against it- he doesn't want our common area cluttered with play things. While I agree with him ideally, realisitically I don't think it's even fair to make them keep ALL their things in their room when pretty much...

Baby Registry & Mommy-to-Be Group

I wrote in a few days ago and am completely delighted at the response you all gave me, and am wondering if you could all help me again. I'm pregnant with my first child, and my family is hounding me to register for a baby shower. I won't find out the sex of the baby until next month, but I want to do everything unisex so it doesn't really matter to me (colors, themes, etc). But what I need help with is what to look for in baby products, where to register (best stores in Treasure Valley ond/or online), what items are pretty essential, what I...
