Summer for a 12 and 10 Year Old - Leave Them Home Alone?

So my friend has 2 kids - a 12 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. As a family, they take two weeks off during the summer. For the other 6 plus weeks, she plans to leave them home alone while she and her husbad work 9-5 Monday - Friday. There are camps they can send them to that are not expensive (money is not an issue). They will likely go to a one week camp (for sports) for a week or two but that's it. Would you leave you 12 and 10 year old at home for 4+ weeks over the summer? I think they are insane. I think it's insane...

Bed Time for 10 Year Old

I am the mother of 3 healthy, active children. Recently, my husband and I have been in disagreement about what time my oldest (10 years old) should be allowed to stay up at night. I feel 8:45 for the 10 yr old is good since he must be up at 6:45am to get the bus at 7:30 am for school. I am the one who gets the kids ready for bed, reads to them, makes sure teeth are brushed, etc and my husband travels for work often so he is not home. When he is home he is usually watching TV, especially sports in the evening. But, my husband thinks the...

What Chores Do You Require of a 12 Year Old?

My dd is busy outside of school with sports practice 3 days/week and we are usually gone on the weekends. I haven't required a whole lot of chores of my kids because I'm a stay at home mom and I actually prefer to do most myself (I'm pretty picky about laundry and I have lots of breakables when cleaning). But, it probably would be good to give my 12 yo some chores just so she's trained to do certain things. What do you give your pre-teen for chorse?

Is He Having Nightmares?

Hi everyone. My almost 3 yo (in August) has never really been a great sleeper, but now that I'm pregnant and not sleeping well myself, I'd really love to be able to help him BECOME a good sleeper--hopefully through the night. At different ages, it's been different things, of course. Lately, it SEEMS like he's having nightmares? He's up about 3-4 times per night, and he actually wakes up. He comes into our bedroom and asks to get into bed with us. I walk him back to his room and he wants me to lie down with him in his bed. I calm him down;...

What Chores Do You Expect from Your 10 Year Old and What Discipline Do You Use

My 10 year old daughter is uncooperative when asked to assist around the house. There is a power struggle and attitude when asked to perform even simple tasks. Then everything escalates on both sides. I am curious what other moms are experiencing and what forms of discipline seems to be effective. I feel like our relationship is great as long as nothing is asked of her. She normally is a sweet considerate kid, until it's time for chores, then the fireworks start. What's normal?

11 Year Old Boys

I am just curious at things other 11 year old boys have done. My 11 almost 12 year old decided last night while he was taking a shower, in my shower, that he would shave the hair off his upper lip! He came downstairs with a little cut on his lip. I asked him why he did it, if he was embarrassed because he had a bit of a hairy upper lip (both my kids are pretty hairy, heck we are quite a hairy family!) His response was he didnt know why, he just wanted to try it. He also has been wearing the same pants almost everyday as well as his...
