Soothing a Cough

My daughters have had several colds this winter, but their latest one is lingering in the form of a nasty cough. My elder daughter is almost 3 and she will cough so hard that she gags. This is making her very cranky during the day and wakes her up three or four times a night. I am just wondering if anyone has suggestions for soothing her cough.

Daughter Tipping over in Bouncy Seat

Hi Moms, My almost 5 month old daughter is uable to sit up unassisted, yet she pulls herself up to sitting while in her bouncy seat and then tips over the side. I've had to retire the bouncy seat (Fisher Price Aquarium) because this is obviously dangerous. So the question is, where do I put her when I need to put her down? We have bebe pod (like a bumbo seat) but she gets tired/bored/uncomfortable in that very quickly. Any other ideas? We have a Jumperoo and Exersaucer in storage that I won't be able to get to for another couple of...

What Is Colic?

My 7 week old daughter might be colic. This is my first and I hear different things like "all babies cry". We had switched her formula 4 times and she is now on Gentlease by Emfamil. This seems to work but now she cries(screams) everyday, about the same time. Yesterday it was for 3 hours and it got so bad I had to call my mother to come over. Thankfully she lives about 10 minutes away. I just reached a breaking point and started crying myself. I took her temp and it was fine. Nothing soothed her. If she does this everyday is this colic or...

Harvard's Research on the CIO Method.

I was just wondering how many of you were familiar with the CIO method's (cry it out) studies performed by Harvard. In addition, how many of you researched the author of "On Becoming Babywise"? Did these finding influence the way you handled your baby's sleep?

Thumb Sucking in an Infant.

How do I stop my 3 month old from sucking her thumb. I am not against self soothing, just would rather her use a pacifier instead. The reason being my older child used her pacifier and when it was time to give it up we took it away. You can't take the thumb away. I am hoping there is something we can do, as I looked back on her ultrasound picture she was sucking her thumb then too. I also don't want the almost 3 yr old to pick up the thumb sucking.

Is This Separation Anxiety?

My son, 17.5 months, has ramped up his separation anxiety in general the past couple months. Like, I go upstairs and it's "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" with tears and everything, and all is fine when I return. I have read a number of places that separation anxiety peaks at 18 months, so we're on track for that. However, I am unsure what to make of this: I am a SAHM and my DH works long law-firm hours, and see DS maybe 1-1.5 hours during the weekday. In the morning if he's awake when DH leaves, he is happy to follow Daddy in the bathroom while...

Stranger Anxiety- 4 Months

My 4 month old seems to have developed stranger anxiety suddenly. He was fine a few weeks ago and now does not like new faces. He cries if someone he does not know even looks at him. He only wants myself or my husband to hold him. He starts crying if people look at him or talk to him. It seems really strange to me. We have had him around lots of people, but during the week he is at home with the nanny. I am looking for activities to expose him to more people. Any ideas for a 4 month old? Have you guys experienced stranger anxiety with your...
