So What Happened?

I am still investigating agencies and trying to find out which one is best for us. I also am looking into the adoption tax credit. Thanks for the info! I appreciate it.

My husband and I adopted a daughter 5.5 years ago through Living Legacy Adoption Agency in Dallas. It took about 6 months to get chosen by a birthmom after our application and profiles were complete. Our adoption is semi-open but at this agency you and the birthmom can agree upon how open or closed you both want it. The agency doesn't dictate that. We have contact with the birthmother and she visited us and the baby for the first 2 years but we no longer have visitation until the child is older. It works for us.

The key is to find an agency that provides counseling to the birthmothers because it is a really hard decision to make and it heart breaking to hand the baby over to someone else to be the baby's parent. Without counseling and a really good support system, many girls don't have the strength to go through with it. Living Legacy was really good with the counseling. Not just about giving the child up for adoption but if they were wanting to parent they provided life skills counseling including how to budget, get a job, cook and clean, basic stuff that many young girls in that situation don't know how to do.

try buckner open adoption program - my son and his girlfriend had their baby adopted thru them and we get to see the baby and they actually got to pick out who adopted their baby. it was hard but it really has turned out wonderful for all concerned. The adoptive parents keep in constant contact with us and i get emailed pics of the baby, now 3, all the time - we are now like ONE big happy family.....and nobody got hurt.....the program is great for both sides of the picture....

My husband and I went through Gladney in Fort Worth twice with our domestic adoptions. Our eldest was born in Fort Worth and our second was born in Virgina. But both adoptions were here in Texas. All agencies are different. Be warned of that. Prices and policies are different so it is wise to become aware of those before commenting yourself to one agency. Some only do open adoptions or may require you to pay for medical or living expenses during the birth mother's pregnancy. We also made sure that if things fell through (the birth mother/father changes their mind) that all monies are not lost and go towards another adoption. And of course if an older child is something you would consider you can go through the state at no cost. Sad truth is children of color and of an older age or medical condition are very much cheaper or at no cost to you and can happen very quickly compared to an adoption of a healthy Caucasian baby.
I'd be happy to try and answer any questions if I could. Just send me an email. ")

I have friends that used the Methodist Home to adopt. They have had some very good experiences in the adoption of both of their children. They went with open adoption for both of their children. Birth parents in both cases were teen moms that came from good homes and backgrounds and were moms that wanted their children to have quality upbringings that they didn't feel they could provide.
