I have just moved to Big Lake MN from California where I had wonderful doctor through Kaiser and now I need to find a good doctor here. If any one has any good doctors in the Big Lake, Monticello or Elk River area I would love to hear about them. Also if you had any bad ( or not very friendly) ones I would like to hear about them also. Thank you.

What can I do next?

Hi B.,
Welcome to Big Lake. My two daughters see Dr. Valerie Welch at the Monticello Clinic (www.monticelloclinic.com). I have had good luck with her. I get the impression she doesn't like to issue medications a lot (which I agree with) so we get along great. If you children have more medical problems then the normal child I would suggest Dr. Kris Kuper at the Monticello Clinic. She really thinks outside the box. My children have seen all of the pediatricians at the Monticello Clinic at one time or another. I do not have anything bad to say about them. If you would like a place that is easier to schedule with, I would suggest Partners in Pediatrics (www.pipstop.com)in Rogers. You do not need an appointment for sick calls, just well child checks. Good luck!

Hi B.. I tend to do things more holistically and natural, but there is always a time and a place. I had my last child at home, but in case of an emergency we needed a doctor at a hospital. I went to Princeton and saw Dr. Peter Jensen at Fairview. My mid-wife recommended him and he is wonderful. I have seen him, one of my boys has, my husband sees him for his yearly check-up and my mom comes out from the cities to see him. If you are not familiar w/ Princeton it is about 25-30 min. from Big Lake depending where abouts you live. The # ###-###-####
Best of luck.....have you found a good babysitter? If so, I am looking for one and would love any recommendations.
Thanks.

I friend of mine goes to Dr Welch in Monticello and is happy. She once went to Dr. Kristine Kuper and did not like her at all.

Hi B.,
I take my son to Riverway Clinic in Elk River -- they are a Health Partners clinic, although you do not need Health Partners insurance to go there. I hate the scheduling at the clinic (have to call a central number and are usually on hold for a LONG time), but other than that LOVE the clinic and the docs and nurses there. They are wonderful. They are affil. with Mercy Hosp. in Coon Rapids, where we gave birth -- and they were also extraordinary. We see Dr. Rabie at Riverway and just adore him.

Good luck in your search and WELCOME to Central MN!!!
