I am looking to switch OBGYN. I live in McKinney but on the edge of Frisco. I am not pregnant and I had my little girl in Kansas, so I don't know which hospital I would want to delivery at next time around. I want to pick a dr based where they deliver. Did anyone love the hospital they delivered at? and/or their dr?
Thank you any suggestions!

Hi K.,

Up until recently I went to North Central Women's Health Partners across from the Mckinney Hospital. I delivered my son at the McKinney Hospital with my midwife, Julie Charlton. I can't say enough positives about Julie, or enough negatives about the hospital. If you want to read my complete review it is here http://www.mamasource.com/business/4787770288932651009/de...

Sadly, Julie is moving which is why I am changing practices. I don't have any complaints about the doctors at NCWHP, but if I had to change anyways, I figured I might as well go to a practice where I could deliver out of the hospital of my choice.

I read every review I could find on Mamasource, and I chose Elite OBGYN with Dr. Michelsen because they were the only practice in the area with 100% positive reviews. I also found out after I had made my choice that this is the same doctor that delivered my best friend's baby and she loved her. Best part is that I can deliver out of Baylor Frisco which is supposed to be the best hospital anywhere around (everyone describes it as a 5 star hotel!) Dr. Michelsen also delivers out of Centennial, where her office is.

I don't have my first appointment with her until the 22nd, so I can't give you any firsthand information about her until then. I can say that I have talked to the nurse there and the receptionist and they were both very nice and understanding. (I had to make sure she would take me on as a patient since I will be 30 weeks at my first visit with her!)

Anyways, feel free to email me and ask any questions about McKinney Hospital, NCWHP, or (after the 22nd) Dr. Michelsen!

Good luck,
A.

I recommend Dr. Gerald Luciani, who delivered my daughter. He was SUPER accessible and patient about explaining EVERYTHING to me, and respecting my ideas and opinions throughout the experience. He delivers at both McKinney and Allen--I delivered at McKinney, and everything was fine, but I've heard bad stories from others besides Amanda, also, so you might want to try Allen.

I delivered at Baylor Frisco. I really enjoyed the hospital. It is beautiful, has its own NICU if needed, and the nursing staff was great. I loved my anasthesiologist (if you get to pick - Laura Berry). I did NOT like my OB - Dr. Michelsen. I am actually in the process of doing the same thing - looking for other doctors that deliver at the same hospital. Good Luck!

So I just read other patient reviews and thought I should explain why I would not recommend Dr. Michelsen...

My husband and I went through Bradley classes to prepare for natural birth. I brought Dr. Michelsen my birth plan and she seemed ok with it (although she didn't care to discuss it too much). She seemed to sound like natural childbirth was good "as long as everything went alright," but I had a bad feeling that "everything going alright" was a very subjective standard.

Despite my fears of her not being very natural birth friendly, I stuck with her (partially because I felt like it was too late to be searching for an OB by the time I was getting concerned). All of that to say, my water broke early, the baby was breech, and I had a c-section 4 hours later. Although this was a unique situation that might have resulted in c-section with any doctor, my experience with her afterwards was not good either.

I delivered my baby almost 6 weeks early. I spent 4 days in the hospital, brought my son home fromthe NICU after 5 days, and the first full day we were at home all i did was lay around in pain. Finally around 2 p.m. I began throwing up, and then I started calling her office. Her receptionist took my calls, spoke with Dr. Michelsen and then called me back. She told me the symptoms were all normal for constipation, to stop taking any prescription pain meds I was on and just take Tylenol (I wasn't taking any prescription pain meds at that point). I called back a couple hours later, when I was still in pain and throwing up, I begged to come in and see her, but when I told them I had no fever, they (Dr. Michelsen via her assistant) told me it wasn't necessary, it was just constipation. Finally around midnight my mom took me to the ER while my husband stayed at home with our 6 day old 4.5 pound baby by himself. I had an ileus - my colon stopped working. Had I waited another 24 hours I could have died. As it was, I spent the next 5 days in the hospital with a tube suctioning out my stomach (3 of which I was in so much pain and on so many meds that I stopped pumping). This experience and time away from my child prevented me from ever really nursing (I never made more than an ounce of milk at a time).

All of that to say, I would not recommend Dr. Michelsen to anyone. Although she tries to be nice in person, she does not take time for her patients, snapped on me once in an office visit when my question caught her off guard, and clearly didn't have time to address my valid concerns after the c-section I didn't want.

I delivered my last 2 babies at Centennial in Frisco (121 & Coit) and thought it was great. My OB/GYN is Dr. Elise Harper w/ Health Central Women's Care (located at Centennial). She's delivered all 3 of my kids and I think her and her partners are awesome.
