I am a distributor for a health & wellness company. I've been with the company 2 years and we are doing quite well with it. There is a small start up cost. My dh and I have owned a "traditonal" business that was all ours (ie. not a franchise, MLM, etc.), and I can tell you we sunk WAY more money into that than we have with the start-up cost and other small expenses of our network marketing business. Having been in both worlds (self-employed on our own and in network marketing) the benefits of a good network marketing company are totally worth the minimal startup cost involved. Do you have specific skills, training or experience in any particular area? Or do you have specific interests that you would like to find work that is related to? How many hours are you willing (or need) to work and do you have a minimum requirement for how much you need to make per week/month/etc.?

I would agree with your husband and stay away from "opportunities" that require you to buy something to start, but on the other hand, starting your OWN at-home business requires a certain amount of startup cost. I know lots of moms who have started their own businesses from home, some do sewing, others run online stores, web design, etc. so that's why I asked those questions above, to help brainstorm and find a legitimate business you can do from home. I do web design myself and work with mostly other work-at-home-moms to get their stores started and I might be able to offer some advice or at least some info.
