Tampons After Baby - Mission Viejo,CA

Hello! Has anyone else had a problem finding tampons that will work after having a child? My son is 9 months old, and he had a large head that definitely stretched me out, and I am still unable to find a big enough tampon that will not leak. Now if I wear a tampon it helps but I still have to wear a pad. Has anyone had this experience? Will it get better eventually or do I need to find gigantic tampons? :) Thank you!!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your answers! :) I ordered the Diva cup since everyone likes that, so we'll see how it goes! I also like the Tampax Pearl tampons so far, but I definitely needed the pad in addition on the first couple of days.

I had to stop using tampon since I'm prone to infections although, I had the same problem too after my first child. Now I use the Keeper and even with super heavy periods I've never leaked (although, I do keep a light cloth pad in just in case). A couple of my friends have also had success with the Diva. Have you looked into those?

Have you tried looking at "Gigantic Tampons R Us"? LOL
I feel you. My son is 8 and it's still not quite like it used to be--with regard to tampons!

Check out the Diva Cup (or other similar silicone menstrual cups) as an alternative to tampons and pads. They come in 2 sizes (based on age and whether you have had a child). I found they really do create a good seal to prevent leaking. There is also a much lower risk of toxic shock syndrome (or maybe no risk -- not sure), it's environmentally friendly, less expensive in the long run, and to me, more convenient (not having to carry supplies around in my purse at that time of the month is nice).

Before I got pregnant, I couldn't wear even super tampons alone and had to use a pad because I had such heavy periods, but the Diva Cup allowed me to stop using both. I'm still pregnant with my first baby (due this month!), but I plan to go back to the Diva Cup once I start having periods again.

I use the ultra super tampons from Tampax (purple). I've only found them at Walmart. They work great.

Lol.. I just posted this question during my last cycle. I had myself a 9lb 12oz baby, now 10 months and was having the same issue. The kotex brand works better for me, I was using tampax pearls and they leaked. Kotex expands all the way around, while Tampax only goes on the sides. I also found that putting it in at a different angle helps too. I used to aim more 'upish', but now if I put it in pointing it almost straight back I have less leaking. I'm going to look into the dixie cup though.

I agree on the Diva cup. Tampons have never worked for me, before or after having a child. I have the Diva cup and love it. It doesn't leak once you get used to putting it in correctly, and I love that I can go the whole day without changing it, as long as it isn't a really heavy flow day.

Unfortunately I had two children with large heads, so I hear ya! I have to use super plus tampons and I still wear a pad just in case. I have been experiencing this since my son was born and that was 11 years ago. Sorry not good news huh? Good luck!

Before I got pregnant, I had to use Kotex Super Plus Absorbancy tampons. They were the only ones that worked for me.

After I had my daughter, I couldn't ever wear tampons again :( She tore me so bad and that caused permenant nerve damage :( The pain was unbearable!!

I end up using the super Pearl from Tampax -- the pearl seems to expand the best in all directions and the super is bigger to start with. They are more expensive than just the norm, but worth it. If they don't work for you -- sorry and good luck!

I pretty much had to use a pad at least one day during the cycle ever since I gave birth. Do some kegels, and try different brands of tampons. I could never do this but my mom said she used to use TWO of the tampax tampons on her heavy days. I never could figure out how to insert two at the same time... YOWZER!!

Hopefully someone has already answered this for you. I used to use OB's largest and they quit making them. One of my friends said to me (Here I am 47 and never thought of this) "Why don't you use two of them, side by side?"
Well guess what? It worked. Still wear a pad though. Also if you feel too stretched you should talk to your gynecologist, they can make you smaller there, too if you tore.

Wear the two tampons side by side, I put the applicators both in at the same time then push them up together and it works.
