Dealing with 12 Year Old Son's Behavior Problems

Hello, I'm looking for suggestions for disciplining my 12 year old son with ADHD. He's usually a good kid but he's been having problems latly at home and at school. This has never been a problem before, but in the last 3 or 4 months, his attitude has really changed. He's mouthy at home and at school and recently have been getting in trouble at school for this problem. He has never been like this in the past (besides normal kid attitude at home once in a while)We've tried grounding, taking things away, taking privlidges away, everything that...

Funeral Out of State

Need a little help here....my grandmother is currently on 24 hour hospice care and not expected to make it through the weekend. Thankfully we were able to go see her this summer and say our goodbyes. When she passes away my husband and I have already decided that I would fly back home alone to go to the funeral and he would stay here with our two kids (15 and 10 years) The kids are aware of the plan and understand. I told this plan to my mom yesterday she does not understand why I would leave them and she would pay for the tickets. I told...

12 Year Old Boys...

My girlfriend has a 12 year old boy that is truly driving her nuts. I give as good of advice as I can, but really I raised girls, Im sure its different. Her son, has started "dating" a 13 year old girl (who mom doesnt like hehe), is pretty disrespectful to his mom, he is spoiled with cash & fancy electronics by his Dad that lives in a different city. He wants to "go out" on dates with the girlfriend, I think in groups it should be ok...? He has no experience using transit alone- I think now is a good time to learn... theres a bunch of stuff...

Growing Pains, Are They Really Painful?

My 3 (almost 4 year old son) woke up crying last night that his legs and knees hurt. He is extremely big for his age, he's 46" tall and weighs about 60lbs. He is very healthy. Is it possible for him to be feeling "growing pains" already? I do know that he's about to go through a growth spurt, but I'm not sure if that's what's causing his leg pain. He woke up this morning and says his legs are fine. What do you think? BTW - I gave him ibuprofen last night for the pain.

Possible ADD or Learning Disabilities

I have an 8 year old son in 2nd grade. My concern is that he hates school and has trouble paying attention in class. He is academically right in the middle of his class, but the teacher thinks he is capable of much more. My son does wear glasses and we had him evaluated by an Occupational Therapist who thinks he also has hyper-sensory disorder, which is unusual sensitivity to sounds, smells, the feeling of things like tags on clothing. This alone could be the cause of his distraction, although he seems to be growing out of this. The...

11 Year Old Boys

I am just curious at things other 11 year old boys have done. My 11 almost 12 year old decided last night while he was taking a shower, in my shower, that he would shave the hair off his upper lip! He came downstairs with a little cut on his lip. I asked him why he did it, if he was embarrassed because he had a bit of a hairy upper lip (both my kids are pretty hairy, heck we are quite a hairy family!) His response was he didnt know why, he just wanted to try it. He also has been wearing the same pants almost everyday as well as his...

Bed Time for 10 Year Old

I am the mother of 3 healthy, active children. Recently, my husband and I have been in disagreement about what time my oldest (10 years old) should be allowed to stay up at night. I feel 8:45 for the 10 yr old is good since he must be up at 6:45am to get the bus at 7:30 am for school. I am the one who gets the kids ready for bed, reads to them, makes sure teeth are brushed, etc and my husband travels for work often so he is not home. When he is home he is usually watching TV, especially sports in the evening. But, my husband thinks the...

Advice on 12 Year-old Shaving Hairy Thighs....

My 12 year old daughter has been shaving her legs now for probably over a year. She has very "hairy" legs, although not "black" hair, she is lucky in that respect. The hair is very blonde, but very thick. I have held her over this long just having her shave the bottom of her legs and not her thighs. She has asked and pleaded to do the top as well and I have just kept giving her excuses why she shouldn't (trying to hold her off doing it as long as I could). I told her that once she starts the upper half, the time it takes to shave doubles,...

My 12 Year Old Being Bullied at School

My 12 year old son came home from school very emotional. He did not want to tell us what happened. He finally did tell us that he was pushed to the ground and hit by 3 boys at school. Then he told us that he didn't know who the boys were. Finally he admiditted that he did know who the boys were, but he didn't want to tell us who the were. We did get him to tell us, but now we are not sure were to take this. He was obviously afraid that we would take action and make things worse for him with these boys. Should we call the parents of these ...
